The book I was reading about the Missionary in Japan has gotten so depressing that I stopped reading it. There is so much suffering in this world, but what really matters is how we DEAL with it. The book wasn't helping at all! All the Spirit-Given strength and courage that was being bestowed upon me by prayer, Scripture, and even posting this thread every day, was being drained by the bitterness in that book. OK...out it goes. I have enough sadness and suffering going on around me without adding to it. As my reading time is so precious to me, I don't want it to go to things that harm my soul. I usually can tell in the first hundred pages if a book is worth finishing, but this one ensnared me for a bit longer. The clue was when I got a nightmare that resembled a scene I had just read. THAT'S IT. Out it goes.

One wonders if the Nightmare was just a few random synapses reviewing what I had read, the result of a couple of weeks of serious stress in my beloved family (really bad right now), or maybe, just maybe, the Holy Spirit was saying to me:

"Put. Down. That. Book. And. Step. Back."

Has that ever happened to You?

Like the other Three Evangelists, John tells the Story of Jesus being baptized by His Cousin John, in the Jordan River.

As you may recall from our reading of the Four Gospels, John testifies that he saw a Vision as Jesus came up out of the Water. In the Vision, The Holy Spirit descends from Heaven in the Form of a Dove, and God The Father speaks in an audible voice. Both the Father and The Holy Spirit bear Witness that Jesus was indeed The Messiah that all of Israel has been waiting for. This event was so important that it appears in all Four Gospels.

While my dream was not witnessed by anyone but me, (and I was asleep at the time), I will never know if it was just something I ate, or even just a stress reaction. But...I am not going to finish that book. If I can read the KJV, Shakespeare, Moby Dick, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky, without having nightmares, then I can trust the Holy Spirit to guide me with regards to my reading material.

There is a reason Book Review Sites have a "DNF" category (Did Not Finish). Some books can be harmful to your (lower-case) spirit. That's when The Holy Spirit (Upper-Case) comes to bear witness.
