Today is a solemn day, as it is the One Year Anniversary of the Brutal Attack on Israel. Unlike Israel's response to the attack, this brutality was directed against ordinary civilians, people attending a music festival, celebrating a holiday, or having breakfast. Babies were murdered in their cribs, women raped and abused, and other atrocities which I can't even bear to type. This is not hyperbole or rumor. The perpetrators themselves took videos of their atrocities and proudly shared them with others. They are so horrible that the Israeli government has not made them public, out of respect for the Dead.

In our own Beloved Country, Hurricane Helene has left a trail of destruction and carnage that looks like a War Zone. It's over a week later that the feckless government has decided to send in Troops. Meanwhile, a Few Churches and Christian Organizations have been doing their best to help. Ugly rumors of government hindrances are peculating out, and one doesn't know WHAT to believe. Why would anyone lie about such things? After enduring the Hurricane Season of 2005 in Florida, I can testify that I didn't see FEMA until six months after the damage, and it had been six Jamaican Lads with Machetes who rescued me from under the tree that fell on my house. From reports from friends in the Big Bend in Florida, it's "Neighbor Helping Neighbor" once again. Those who still have food are sharing it just like after Hurricane Wilma.

So, after not getting as much as a Cup of Coffee from FEMA (I ended up giving THEM a mug of coffee when they finally showed up), I learned the hard way that we can't rely on the government for help.

The government may have the resources, but they don't have the Anointing to do good. They have the equipment, but not the motivation. The Jamaican Lads were from a local church. They didn't even have chainsaws, just machetes, and they were able to clear a huge banyan tree from my front door. They may not have had the tools, but they had the Anointing of The Holy Spirit to reach out and do good.

When Jesus read from the Scriptures in His Hometown, He was reading from the Scroll of Isaiah. The Prophecy stated His Mission as the Messiah (Anointed One):

to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

May we all take this Mission to Heart.
