Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father Who Art In Heaven,
How Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Glorious Name!
And How Wonderful You Are,
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
Our Strong Tower,
Our Ever Present Help in Times Of Trouble!
Only You Are Worthy of Our Praise And Worship,
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent!
You Are Always Aware of Our Most Intimate and Fleeting Thoughts,

Let all that has been Concealed

As I was walking Tippy at six in the morning, early enough to catch a beautiful Autumn Sunrise, I saw my Newlywed Nephew's Pick-Up Truck parked in front of my sister's (His Mother's) house. All kinds of bizarre thoughts invaded my mind. Why would his truck be here so early in the morning? Is somebody sick? Is there a family emergency? Did he have a fight with his wonderful bride? (No, that couldn't be it! They're head-over-heels in LOVE!). All through my three-mile walk, I ruminated and speculated, not daring to think what might be going on.

Finally, later in the day, after seeing that the truck was still there, I pulled it together and called my sister.

"Oh there's no problem," she said. Then she began to tell the story:

My Nephew's Bride is a Boston City Firefighter, and she had to be on duty for the Long Weekend in the Busiest Station in the City. My Nephew got it in his mind that she should come home to a freshly painted HOUSE. He dragged out the extension ladder, bought the paint and went to work (a two-story raised ranch). It took two days of scraping, prepping, and painting to complete the job. As he was cleaning up, he got a phone call from his brother who desperately needed a babysitter for his four children (two in diapers), because an important gig came up in another state, and his wife had to work late. "No Problem!" said my Nephew, and he cleaned up the paint and put away the ladder, and drove the forty miles to his brother's house.

One of the babies is in what is known as "The Terrible Twos" and had a particularly exhausting case of the ZOOMIES that went on for most of the afternoon and evening. Then she got TOO TIRED to go to sleep. Meanwhile, the infant is teething, and she let everybody know. My nephew handled it great, and when his Sister-In-Law got home, both had finally settled down. She took one look at my Nephew and said,

"You look awfully Tired. Why don't you just crash on the couch tonight, and go home tomorrow?"

No, I want to be there when K. comes home from work and sees the new paintjob on the house!"

And so, he got into his truck and began the 40 mile drive back to Boston. About halfway home, around midnight, he was so tired that he was afraid he might fall asleep while driving, so he called his Mom (my sister) and asked if he could leave the car in front of her house and take an UBER home from there.

When he arrived, Sis took a look at him and said: "You look awfully Tired. Why don't you just crash on the couch tonight, and go home tomorrow?"

No, I want to be there when K. comes home from work and sees the new paintjob on the house!"

So he took the UBER home, and fell asleep on his own couch. He slept so soundly that he wasn't even awakened by his wife's ecstatic exclamations of delight upon seeing the Newly Painted House!

Now, my nephew is a very strong man. He has done some professional wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts, and works in Construction. Yet, even he couldn't keep going forever without sleep. As strong as his "flesh" is, it is still weak compared to what he wanted to do. How many times has that happened to you? I know, I've been there, and done that. I once painted a house, ironically in the same zip code as my nephew's house! About halfway through, I was ready to give up, because it made me SO tired. I had to hire somebody to paint up into the peaks, because, even with the professional ladder, I just couldn't reach them. I remember aching for a week after I finished the job.

The Lord knows our limitations, and will not require us to do something we absolutely CAN'T. He supplies us with the strength we need to do His Will. When we are filled with a "Willing Spirit", and our "flesh" is weak, He will provide. However, if we try to accomplish our OWN will, in our OWN flesh, we will all eventually hit the wall.

That's when we need to pull over, park the truck, and look to The Holy Spirit for our strength.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
