Overcoming Helene. By JAG September 28, 2024
I just finished looking at the devastation in Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee (on YouTube.)
It was very bad for many people who lost everything they owned -- their homes and all their possessions.
Several homes were on fire and burning up.
And for those still in their homes to be without electricity for a long time is a very very sad experience for them to have to endure.
Without power everything comes to a very unpleasant STOP.
But . . . . .
The Sovereign God has a good Plan (everything is "predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will" Ephesians 1:11)
Everything will work out for the ultimate good of all of God's Elect - His people.
Samaritan's Purse will be on the scene "Helping In Jesus' Name" and preaching the gospel --and helping with the cleanup and roof tarps and home rebuilding.
We pray that the Sovereign Lord will be merciful to everybody touched by Helene and all those who are out there helping others.
Now all is bad -- jobs will be created in many areas, eg. new home construction.
First Responders demonstrated their heroics.
And the large numbers of people that will volunteer to help others will demonstrate their compassion and kindness.
In a real sense the Lord Jesus on The Cross and in His Resurrection has guaranteed that there will be no ultimate defeat for any of His Elect people who are now suffering because of Helene. This world is not our ultimate home. The Lord Jesus died on The Cross to give His people the gift of Eternal Life. "Our citizenship is in Heaven."
Helene presents an opportunity to glorify the Sovereign God and to keep on and on and on and on doing good -- coming to the aid of those who are hurting.
America will rebuild.
There are tens of thousands of backhoes and dump trucks in America.
America has boo coo numbers of construction companies with plenty of materials and plenty of money.
America has a $ 22 Trillion dollar annual economy.
America with the help of the Sovereign God will Rock & Roll on into Helene and eventually put it all back better than it was before.
Victory in the Lord Jesus.

Was the destruction not "nationally" newsworthy?
Is the YouTube forum amplifying the damage due to the number of individual posts which may duplicate content but appear as a separate events?
No, I'm not trying to minimize the impact of Helene, I am curious about the varied levels of media coverage.
The homes burning? My brother said that if his house was going to flood he would set it on fire because insurance pays better for fires than for floods. Flood insurance gets you 25000 dollars and that’s it (misinformation disclaimer). Homeowner insurance will cover way more for a fire. You come out on the other side with a newly rebuilt home and the neighbors all end up paying out the nose to just get almost as good as it was before.
$200,000+ for a dump truck plus the diesel, blue def, maintenance and driver to operate it.
.....We pray that the Sovereign Lord will be merciful to everybody touched by Helene and all those who are out there helping others......

All roads in and out of Asheville, NC are still closed! It sounds like Asheville is still only accessible by air unless you head up from I26, and even then you will encounter closures before the city. This is an absolute mega disaster for western NC on the order of Hurricane Katrina
I have family who live in Asheville. Haven’t heard from them since 10:00 am yesterday. Communications seem to be down.

Thankfully daughter in Florida only had minor damage (large tree blocking their driveway and of course on top of a power line) and other misc. small damage. My heart goes out to all the suffering families in all affected states.

Wow.
We have relatives in the NC mountains. We have been unable to contact any of them, across five counties. My 90-year-old Mother In Law has a huge oak tree crushing her roof, but no one can get near her house to help.
Fox News has almost 24 hour coverage of the damage and recovery efforts.
Our church has a rapid-response swat team that is deployed to Florida to aid folks down there.
Don’t leave out south carolina.
The Upstate got whacked, local flooding, no electrity till maybe monday.
My food will be spoiled soon.
