Breaking: Steve Lawson Removed from Pastoral Ministry Due to “Inappropriate Relationship”
Protestia ^ | September 19, 2024 | David Morrill

Posted on 09/19/2024 8:54:29 PM PDT by Morgana

This is indeed a heartbreaking piece of news for us to have to report. We are praying for the situation at the church and the Lawson family and will report back with any updates.

UPDATE: The following statement was posted at the church’s website:

The elders at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas regretfully announce that effective immediately, Steven J. Lawson has been removed indefinitely from all ministry activities at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas. Several days ago, the elders at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas were informed by Steve Lawson of an inappropriate relationship that he has had with a woman. The elders have met with Steve and will continue to come alongside him and pray for him with the ultimate goal of his personal repentance. Steve will no longer be compensated by Trinity Bible Church of Dallas. In light of this, may we be reminded that we are ALL sinners, and Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners – and Christ remains Head of His Church, which is bigger than any fallen man. In fact, Jesus Christ will continue to lead His Church, including Trinity Bible Church here in Dallas, just like He has from the start of this work on January 5, 2018. Since that time, the elders have focused on the primacy of biblical exposition knit together by various men filling the pulpit each week. The Lord was building Trinity Bible Church of Dallas well before Steve became our Lead Preacher, and He will continue to build this church long after Steve Lawson, or any other man for that matter. We would ask for your prayers for the elders, for our Body, and for Steve and his family. Let us always be mindful of the words of 1 Corinthians 10:12, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.”

Happens almost without fail. Popular trendy cool pastor get a big head and perverted. It’s one of the most easy things to see coming and it keeps working. Sad.

Heartbreaking and sad. He is closely associated with John MacArthur, and I enjoy watching his sermons when he fills in for John. This is terrible and I pray he repents and gets right with God and his family.

“He is closely associated with John MacArthur,”

So I take it this guy is well known?

Two Christian news sites are already carrying this news, I suspect more will in the next 24 hours.

He was well known along with R.C. Sproul and John MacArthur. He was one of my favorites. I’d never have even believed it possible.

Judgement begins in the house of the Lord. 1 Peter 4:17. I believe God is cleaning up the church, exposing sin.

The rules for these leaders are such that it may not be the level of intimacy everyone assumes immediately/

True! He may, in fact, not have stuck it all the way in.

Or, they may have been having hot monkey sex.

No way to know until the full story comes out.

(But will the full story ever come out?)

Regards,

Yes, he was a student of the late great R.C. Sproul...

Lawson is a solid theologian and biblical preacher/teacher. Very bad that he fell into this sin.

So, was he predestined to fall? All kidding aside, it grieves me to see these things. Mega church and mult-campus churches just seem to lend to pedestaled pastors with little accountability.

I’m of the opinion that pastors should have some other type of gainful employment and pastoring should be a ministry.

We are certainly on the same page in that regard.

And the church size is relevant...how?

Mega monster church with multiple campuses, some over 2000 members.

Exactly how big is this guy's church. again?

Incidents like this that bring so much joy to the hearts of unbelievers (as well as to Satan himself) remind believers of the fact that only the ineffable nature of Jesus Christ allowed him to walk this world, the possession of the prince of the power of the air, for thirty three years without sin, that he might fulfill the law and be demonstrated God’s worthy and exclusive Savior. Because of the virgin birth, he alone did not inherit the sin nature that came through Adam to the rest of us, and qualifies him to be our Savior. Yet God on His grace confers through the second birth not only pardon, but the indwelling Holy Spirit, who alone in our submission to Him , can direct us through present sanctification to ultimate glorification; but through this life we continue also to possess that sin nature, like a rotting corpse tied to our backs. “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”I Tim 1:15
