Years ago, there was a group of women in a South American Country who went by the name of "Mothers of the Missing". These women gathered daily in the public square and demanded the release of their sons and husbands, who had disappeared into the system as "political prisoners". I can't remember the country or whether the system was Left or Right, but I remember those "Mothers". Every day they were there, and nobody seemed to care. I am so certain of my memory of this that I searched the Internet, but only found this: Madres Buscadoros, a more recent group in Mexico that searches for their loved ones "disappeared" by the Drug Cartels and sex trade.

The loss of these mothers is just as heartbreaking, but I wonder why I can't find anything about the earlier group.

Captivity is perhaps the most horrible condition a Human Being can endure. The worst part of it is wondering if anybody even CARES. Here is a famous quote from The Gulag Archipelago:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! The ordeal of the Hostages in Rafah is also heartbreaking. Their captors are vicious, and with use every trick, physical, psychological, immoral, unethical, and just plain EVIL against the innocent captives. What is worse is that there are people in both Israel and Our Own Nation who take the side of the Captors instead of the Captives.

To get a little closer to home, there are over a hundred people being held captive right now. These people are being called "Insurrectionists", yet not a single one has been charged with "Insurrection". Trespassing, yes. Damage to Public and Private Property, maybe. But not "insurrection". Because many are being held without communication or due process, they are being held in violation of the Constitution. That makes them America's Very Own "Political Prisoners". I never thought I would see this in my lifetime, but here it is.

Isaiah calls the Holy Spirit (and His Anointed One) The Liberator. He sets the Captives Free.

We all are held captive at one time or another. We can be captives to sin, captives to ideology, captives to guilt, captives to habit, or even captives in real life, as shown by the examples I have cited today.

The Bible has several instances of captives and slaves being liberated, all the way back to Abraham. Sometimes the "Rescue" happens right away, other times it takes years. In some cases, the Holy Spirit uses angels to effect the rescue. Other times, He uses a sinful human being, such as King Cyrus, to Liberate the Oppressed.

My Prayer is that all of us will be willing and able to be used by the Holy Spirit to be Liberators.
