Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Blessed and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
How Magnificent,
How Holy,
How Sanctified and Glorious!
When I Awake in the Morning,
You Are There.
All through the day,
You Are With me.
And When I go to Sleep at Night,
You Are Still Watching Over Us All.
For You Neither Slumber Nor Sleep.

I love You, LORD
because You have heard My voice and my supplications.
Because You Have inclined Your ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon You as long as I live.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

The boy who sat behind me in the Fourth Grade was named Gary W. Since my last name also began with a W, I sat directly in front of him in the last two desks in the classroom. Miss Connors, the stern and inflexible teacher, demanded that we sit in Alphabetical Order, even though I was short and hearing-impaired, and Gary was a big hulking bully.

Gary was always poking at me and making trouble. At one point, Miss Connors made the entire class stay after school because of something Gary did. Everybody, including the teacher, KNEW it was Gary, but she was punishing the entire class. I suppose she was attempting to cause the class to apply peer pressure on Gary to make him toe the line, but it was UNFAIR!

And so, Little Miss Justice (me) called her on it in front of the entire class. I told her that it was unfair that she punish the entire class for something she KNEW Gary did.

That earned me another twenty minutes detention, as she let all the others (including Gary) leave the classroom.

Years later, I went back to the school to speak to her about it, but she had long since retired. Oh Well. Funny, the things you remember.

The context of Today's Name For God is one of Authority and Rebellion from the very People God had appointed to serve Him. Moses was the Legal Leader, Aaron was the Spiritual Leader, and the Levites ministered in the Tabernacle. It was a great honor to be a Levite, and, to this day, Practicing Jews recall that honor with their own surnames, like Levitt, Levine, Levy, and so on.

However, in this instance, certain Levites, led by Korah, Dathan, and Abirim, decided that they were being slighted by Moses and Aaron. They rebelled against Moses, and Moses takes his complaint to God.

God chooses a unique way of testing who is guilty of rebellion. He orders them all to take incense and offer up the smoke, and shows the guilty parties by the way it is either accepted or rejected. This is manifested by The "Glory of God" appearing in the Tabernacle, which is so awesome that the whole group cowers in fear. Then God tells Moses and Aaron to get out of the way because He is about to smite the whole congregation.

Here's where we see Moses as a Great Intercessor. He falls on his face before God, and pleads for the lives of his People. This is not the first, nor the last time Moses has prayed in this manner. Because of his prayer, God opens up the earth and it swallows up just the actual rebels and their families, but leaves the rest of the camp intact.

Moses addresses God as "God, the God of the spirits of all flesh". This is a very unusual Name for God, and very interesting. It implies that all flesh has the spirit of life in them, from the smallest creatures to the largest. While the Spirit of Humans is different from that of animals, there is still something there that is beyond our understanding.

The Bible is quite specific about cruelty to animals. Here are a few Scriptures that come to mind:

"Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." (Deuteronomy 25:4 NIV)

And He answered them, saying, “Which of you shall have an ox or an ass fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?” (Luke 14:5 KJ21)

"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel." (Proverbs 12:10 KJV)

There are even laws in the Torah about taking care of someone else's animals, if they happen to wander onto your property. The animal must be returned, but cared for properly until that takes place. Other laws concern yoking two animals together that are unequal in strength and endurance, for this is cruelty to the weaker animal.

As the old hymn says:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

(from the Hymn: "All Things Bright and beautiful" by Cecil F. Alexander, 1848

May the Lord bless us always with a Sense of Wonder at His Marvelous Works.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 25

Of David.

1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.

6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

11 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who are they that fear the Lord?
He will teach them the way that they should choose.

13 They will abide in prosperity,
and their children shall possess the land.
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever towards the Lord,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart,
and bring me* out of my distress.
18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20 O guard my life, and deliver me;
do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.

22 Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all its troubles.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

A favorite promise about animals:

And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
Hosea 2:18
