Seventh day adventist scandal

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has faced numerous scandals and allegations of abuse, negligence, and cover-ups over the years. Here are some notable instances:

Presidential Scandal (1999): Robert S. Folkenberg, the president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, resigned amidst allegations of business dealings with a Sacramento man, James E. Moore, who was accused of financial improprieties. Folkenberg claimed the controversy was distracting from God’s work.

Sexual Abuse Allegations (2014): At least 525 people had lodged claims alleging child sexual abuse in the church, according to a report from its risk management organization. This highlights the church’s struggle to address and prevent abuse.

Portland-Area Church Lawsuit (2018): A woman sued the Seventh-day Adventist Church for allegedly ignoring sexual abuse allegations against a teacher and pastor, Lee Thompson. The suit claimed Thompson abused a young girl in the 1970s and was later moved to a different position, where he continued to abuse.

Youth Program Abuse (2014): The church faced allegations of abuse in its youth program, with multiple victims coming forward. This incident highlighted the need for improved safeguards and accountability.

Pastor’s Approval of Marital Rape (2021): Burnett Robinson, a senior pastor, was removed from his position after admitting to approving marital rape. This incident sparked outrage and calls for greater accountability within the church.

Retaliation against Abuse Victim (2022): A woman who spoke out about her abuse by her ex-husband faced retaliation from the church, including disfellowship and attempts to discredit her.

Florida Conference Lawsuit (2019): Two victims of abuse by Orlando pastor Billy Leveille sued the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, alleging negligence in supervising the pastor and others at the church. These scandals and allegations have damaged the reputation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and led to calls for greater transparency, accountability, and protection for victims of abuse.

This goes with any church, unfortunately. Some people are only converts with their lips.

I say that we are all human and sin. Some people fake being more righteous than others and do horrible things. If you truly have faith in Christ, denomination wars shrink smaller and smaller.
Purge the evil from our midst.

I don’t care what group you look at, if it’s large enough, you’re going to find bad actors in there, sometimes a LOT of bad actors who fly under the radar despite a robust “accountability policy.”

This includes solid church groups, unfortunately.

Even Jesus had a betrayer in his inner circle.

Every ideology has this. Humans adopt ideologies to different degrees, with imperfect and partial understanding, different character, motivations, baggage, etc...

The difference between Evengelical Christians and Seventh Day Adventists is that Evengelical Christians admit we fall short of the Glory of God, while at the same time we know we have an Advocate Who died for the forgiveness of sins for all who seek forgiveness.

Contrast that to certain Seventh Day Adventists here on FR who claim to keep and obey the Law mainly because they “keep” the Sabbath as well as all of God’s Commandments. And those outside of the SDA’s who break the Law (by falling short) are going to hell.

So my question for these self righteous types, are these “Seventh Day Adventist Commandment breaking heathens” also hell bound?

What say you?

Evangelist Christians (as do all) fall short which is why we stay at the Feet of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are saved by our Faith in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ and are saved by Grace, not the works of our flesh through self righteousness.

I work by Keene TX and regularly meet SDA members.

Most are very kind, considerate people and care about their families. The church has brought in many “refugees” that live mostly unconverted lives taking advantage of our social networks.

In short, fairly conservative families that anyone would have as neighbors, and a few folks that still need to be watched.

I remind myself that though a Christian, I still choose to walk so that others will take no offense at me with my business dealings with them.

No disagreement. My post reflects certain sda members here on FR who have already judged us who are saved by God’s Grace into hell simply because we do not “keep the Sabbath” as they do. Nor are we under the Law since God sent His only begotten Son to Shed His Blood at Calvary for the forgiveness of sins.

If we place ourselves under the Law through means of self righteousness, we reject God’s Grace unto Salvation. Paul made that clear.

And sadly, you get some who pretend they're holier than thou, and the broad brush all born again believers in Christ based on the sins of a few high profile figures who name the name of Christ.

The high profile actors in any group who are bad eggs likely are not genuine converts but opportunists who use the organization to achieve their own personal agenda.

In his autobiography, Malcolm wrote that nicest white people they had ever met growing up was a Seventh day Adventist family in the neighborhood. They were always giving them food and clothes and talking about the end of the world.

Seventh day Adventists are Protestants. The most Protestant you can get. Ironically, this post is so far off base.....even the Adventist church themselves admit they are so imperfect, they are the church of laodecia described in Revelation 3. An end time church that no longer feels her need, she’s rich and lukewarm, and God spits the lukewarm out of his mouth. He rather you be hot or cold.

Many Seventh day Adventists are wealthy doctors, professionals, etc who in North America are lukewarm and God admonishes them. He doesn’t admonish them for what they believe, like he did other churches....but for their lack of sense of need. But he still loves this church.

And this post is so wrong, clearly, the poster never went to the official church website that lists 28 fundamental doctrines. Grace alone through faith alone.......Protestants. They just happen to believe the Lord’s day has never changed and even though they don’t keep it perfectly.......it’s a blessing. They didn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater and neither did Jesus in showing the true purpose of the Sabbath.

What a terrible post this is........

Legalism and Law keeping saves no one.

Ever.

Galatians 2:15-21 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.

Many Mormons are nice people, too.

But to claim that someone is going to hell because they worship on a different day than what the SDA call the Sabbath, is not Scripturally supported.

God ordained the seventh day as a day of rest.

I have yet to find anywhere in Scripture where God commanded worship of Him, or acceptable worship of Him, to take place on the Sabbath.

Yes, it’s a practice by many and it makes sense that when you have the free time from working for a living, it’s a great time to spend in prayer and worship, and meeting with others of like faith.

And some of the feasts God commanded to be observed are called *sabbath*, but nowhere that I can see did God command men to worship on specific day of the week or face hell for not.

Amen! We all fall short of the Glory of God. But if we live under the Law, we shall be judged by the Law.

But those of us who recognize the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the Purpose, we understand that forgiveness only comes by Grace. Not self righteousness through means of any Law or works.

He That The Son Has Set Free Is Free Indeed. No more chains of slavery.
