Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Magnified and Sanctified is Your Name, Oh LORD,
Glorious and Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Awesome and Transcendent,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
Creator of All That is,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 1
1 Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
2 but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Forgive me this little foray into "Pop Culture", as it reminded me of a Seinfeld Episode. The Bible Account only shows up once in the Gospels, but carries incredible impact to this day. The name of the Seinfeld episode was "The Understudy". A very minor point in the complicated plot was that Frank Costanza, a Korean War Veteran, lost a lover in Korea because he wouldn't take his shoes off upon entering her parents' home. His reason was that he was ashamed of his feet because of their odor.
He encounters his lost love in a Nail Salon in New York City, and is instantly recognized when he won't take off his shoes for a pedicure. (The rest of the story involved Celebrity Baseball, Bette Midler, and the Nancy Kerrigan/ Tonya Harding Olympics Scandal. Like I said...Complicated!)
Frank's embarrassment at the Nail Salon hit a chord with me. Although I LOVE getting a pedicure, I can't help but feel somewhat embarrassed by a petite Asian Lady ministering to my big ugly feet. I know I shouldn't be bothered by it, but I am. I can't help but feel like I don't deserve to be waited on in this manner. But I sure do love the way it feels getting a foot massage. It's a little inner struggle that I wrestle with whenever I get a pedicure, which isn't often.
Imagine how the Apostles felt that Passover Evening when they gathered for the Seder! Here was their Master, their Teacher, stripped to the waist, kneeling in front of them and washing their feet! Remember, this wasn't in a nice, sanitary nail salon with whirlpool footbaths and massage chairs. These were Men who walked the dusty streets of Jerusalem in sandals, and their feet were DIRTY.
I completely understand Peter's embarrassment. Like Frank Costanza, he risked losing the Love of His Life by refusing to take off his shoes. Jesus said:
“Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” (John 13:8 NIV)
Washing the Feet of the guests upon their arrival was a job for the lowliest servant in the household, the "doulos". By taking the role of the doulos, Jesus was in the process of teaching His Disciples how to treat one another. While He was Serving them, He was also Teaching them.
My personal code as a teacher is to never demand anything of my students that I wouldn't do myself. I tell them to practice and keep track of their progress, and I do that too. I tell them to take good care of their instruments, and I take care of mine too. A real Teacher leads by example rather than dictate from a lofty lectern.
Don't be afraid to let Jesus wash your feet. He's seen a lot WORSE!

....................................
Oh yes! Just like Jesus taught us. He’s the perfect example.
To Be Receptive To All God Would Teach Us
Loving Lord, how we thank You for the Scripture which You caused to be written for our learning. It is food and nourishment for our soul, a light to guide and protect our path and life and health to all Who love Your name.
We pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit, You would open our hearts and our minds to all that is written in Your Word of grace. Guide us into all truth and may our ears be ever open to hear Your still small voice. May our eyes be ever watchful for the lessons that You would have us learn and may our hearts be ever receptive to all that You would teach us.
Thank You Lord, that by Your Word and Spirit You have given us all we need in order to live a life that is godly and well-pleasing to Your sight. Open our eyes day by day to see wondrous things in Your precious Word. In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
