Our Father,
How Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,

and Lord of Lords!

Thank You, LORD,
For Always being with us,

I was only 15, and had to be 18 to get into the Dance Hall called The Boston Tea Party. Somehow I manged to gain entry. I saw some incredibly iconic bands from the 60's there, and have wonderful memories of the venue. The name of the place was from two sources; the Historic event when Boston Patriots threw British Tea into the Harbor, and the fact that another name for marijuana as "Tea". So, basically, it was a code name for Rebellion. Forty years later, I would again attend a "Tea Party" in Florida, where I met and hung out with Congressman Allen West, Herman Cain, and the ACTUAL ORIGINAL FUNK BROTHERS from Motown. (What a day THAT was!)

Names of Buildings and Venues carry a LOT of meaning.

At the junction of two continents stands a beautiful, ancient building. called Hajia Sophia. The name of the building is Greek, and means "Holy Wisdom" and was built in the Sixth Century AD as a Church. Subsequent wars and conquests have turned it into a mosque, and much of the priceless mosaics and art have been lost or covered up. Nevertheless, it is still a magnificent building, and the architecture is a marvel, considering that it has stood all these years.

For a long time, I struggled with the name of that church. "Holy Sophia"? Was that a Saint's name? Or maybe a tribute to the Greek goddess of wisdom? That's what "Sophia" means, and it is a feminine name. Certainly, there are churches named after various saints, some of them female, so it shouldn't be a surprise, but, for some reason, this one bothered me.

Today's Passage sheds some light on the subject. Jesus is called "The Power of God and The Wisdom of God." Power and Wisdom are both wonderful qualities, but they are linked and compliment one another. Imagine having all the Power in the Universe, but no Wisdom as to how to wield it. Conversely, imagine having Infinite Wisdom, and knowing all the solutions to all the problems in the Universe, but having absolutely no Power to bring them about. The two qualities are linked for Eternity. Imagine the Wisdom it takes to create the Atom. Then, imagine the Power it takes to hold it all together (Colossians 1:17).

Power can also be compared to God's Sovereignty, while Wisdom can be compared to His Providence. It takes Infinite Wisdom to see the End from the Beginning and the Beginning from the End. And we know, many times, what men mean for evil, God can use for Good (Romans 8:28 and Genesis 50:20).

Both God's Power and His Wisdom are HOLY, so "Hagia Sophia" isn't such a bad name for a church after all.
