Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
We Praise and Worship You,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God of the Universe!
Blessed Are You Oh LORD, Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
LORD of Hosts,
Rock of All Ages!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Since my Childhood, I have always cared about the planet we live on. When, in the 1950's, there was a campaign to "Keep America Beautiful", I was all onboard. I even learned and sang The Litterbug Song. (Remember that?) And yet, even to this day, I encounter lots of litter on my daily walks with Tippy-the-Dog. Most of this is in the form of plastic water bottles, and some are still half filled with water. Are these from runners and joggers who take a few sips and throw the rest away? I can't figure it out!
It's one thing to be neat and tidy, to care about the environment, to conserve resources, and to NOT be a slob. There's a difference between that, and "Worshiping Mother Earth". Seven years ago, I wrote this little parable (rant?) about the extreme, when common sense becomes idolatry. At the time, it was in a commentary about Psalm 148:
Mandated to wash, sort, and separate her "recyclables", Joe and Mary Citizen dutifully complied. All the glass (thoroughly rinsed and sorted according to color and type), plastics (sorted according to the code numbers on the bottom), and cans (washed and collected separately) were put in their appropriate bins on the sidewalk for a separate collection. Newspapers and corrugated cardboard were in a separate pile.The water and energy used to clean and sort the recyclables was considerable, but not taken into consideration, because Joe and Mary knew that they were doing it for "Mother Earth". A separate diesel-chugging truck poured all her nicely cleaned, sorted, and separated trash into a single stream and made it's way to the Recycling Center, manned by the mob-connected union workers, who told the truck driver that they were full, so just take the load down the street to the town landfill, and mix it in with the rest of the trash.
And Joe and Mary said it was GOOD, and that THEY were Good People, because they were Doing the Right Thing.
Though this is an extreme case, Things like this have happened. It is the foolish end result of letting Nature-Worship take precedence over Common Sense.
God's handiwork is so amazing that it is easy to get distracted by it. Nearly all cultures have some form of "Nature Worship", which is, in fact Idolatry. Paul explains this quite forcibly in the First Chapter of his Letter to the Romans, and calls it "worshiping the Creation rather than the Creator." This huge mistake is not only the Bailiwick of primitive or ancient peoples. Our own "Enlightened" Twenty-First Century Culture has adopted a form of Nature-Worship called "Being Green" and it is everywhere. Littering is disgusting, Pollution is Awful, and Waste is a bad habit. But let's not fall into the trap of worshiping the creation. This Magnificent Psalm tells us that NATURE worships GOD, not the other way around.
Today's Name for Christ is "All in All". It is a title given by St. Paul, under the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, in his First Letter to the Church in Corinth. Corinth had a diverse population, was very rich, and had a lot of idolatry going on. Every cult that came along found a happy home in Corinth. There were many who saw Christianity as just another one of these new religions, and acted accordingly. This was complicated by the fact that the Gifts of the Spirit were in abundance (a GOOD thing), but people were all trying to exercise their Gifts at the same time (a BAD thing). People were interrupting each other, yelling across the room, exercising the verbal gifts (like Tongues and Prophecy) in an inappropriate manner, and just making a mess of things. Not only that, but they tolerated sexual sin in their midst, and had no self-control. Paul had to write a Letter (the famous "Strongly-Worded-Letter" we are always hear about?) that addressed these issues. He also included in this letter the most beautiful Passage in the New Testament, the Beloved "Love Chapter" (1 Corinthians 13)
In Paul's Letter, he also calls Jesus the "All in All". This is similar to the statement, also by Paul the Jesus is "before all things, and in Him all things hold together...(Colossians 1:17 my Paraphrase).
In Paul saying that Jesus is holding everything together, down to the subatomic level? Scientists speculate that there is a "Strong Force" that holds the atoms together, because otherwise everything would fly apart. Is Paul calling Jesus the "Strong Force" when he names Him the "All in All"?
When I first read Colossians, sitting on a rock at Houghton's Pond next to my motorcycle, that's what the Passage said to me. It was just an impression, and is deeply personal, but maybe you might see it that way too.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)
God Bless America.

Psalm 41
To the leader. A Psalm of David.
1 Happy are those who consider the poor;*
the Lord delivers them in the day of trouble.
2 The Lord protects them and keeps them alive;
they are called happy in the land.
You do not give them up to the will of their enemies.
3 The Lord sustains them on their sickbed;
in their illness you heal all their infirmities.*
4 As for me, I said, ‘O Lord, be gracious to me;
heal me, for I have sinned against you.’
5 My enemies wonder in malice
when I will die, and my name perish.
6 And when they come to see me, they utter empty words,
while their hearts gather mischief;
when they go out, they tell it abroad.
7 All who hate me whisper together about me;
they imagine the worst for me.
8 They think that a deadly thing has fastened on me,
that I will not rise again from where I lie.
9 Even my bosom friend in whom I trusted,
who ate of my bread, has lifted the heel against me.
10 But you, O Lord, be gracious to me,
and raise me up, that I may repay them.
11 By this I know that you are pleased with me;
because my enemy has not triumphed over me.
12 But you have upheld me because of my integrity,
and set me in your presence for ever.
13 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.Amen and Amen.

I was just discussing with my young grandson yesterday about atoms, how they’re made of smaller particles that are always in motion. He asked what held them together. I told him Jesus spoke them into existence and they stay together under His command, and He can command them to all come apart as well. It’s amazing what youngsters can comprehend about creation.
