Vigano wrote about this within the last few weeks. He seemed rather dismissive of the whole thing. He cited the Bishop Lefebvre fiasco to make his point. Lefebvre was excommunicated for “illegally” consecrating bishops in the 1980s. According to Vigano, the decision by the Vatican to lift the excommunication after Lefebvre’s death was a tacit admission that the original excommunication was never legitimate in the first place.
Ah...thank you for that explanation. I am not Roman Catholic, so I was not following the story as closely.
