Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Mighty,
How Majestic,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,

Sometimes I recap stories that I have already shared with you, but for different reasons. Here's one from 2017:

It was the early 50's and my Dad was sitting in an old-fashioned barber shop having his hair cut. Al, the barber was humming a tune as he cut my Dad's hair.

"That's Dein ist mein ganzes hertz from "Land of Smiles" Dad said.

"You know operetta?" queried Al.

"Oh yes," said Dad, "And I have the most advanced record player available. It plays long-playing 33 RPM Records and is Ultra High Fidelity! You've got to come hear "Land of Smiles" on my new two-record Deutchegrammaphone Hi-Fi LP Set!"

The next evening Al came to our house, and I (about 7 years old) was introduced to him. To this day, I remember that the very first thing I said to Al was:

"What are those NUMBERS on your arm?"

My parents, mortified, tried to hush me up, but Al was very kind and said,

"That was something that happened during the War, Darling" and left it at that. It wasn't till I was a bit older that I learned about the Holocaust, and I fondly remembered Al, who helped protect my innocence for a little bit longer.

Looking back at my little story about Dad and his Barber, a number of things occurred to me:

1. Dad was a Christian and Al was Jewish. Yet they related to each other as human beings. Dad patronized Al's Barber Shop, and even invited him into his home to listen to music. Al was delighted to go into the house of People he didn't even know and who weren't Jewish. After what he had been through, that was quite remarkable.

2. Dad invited a total stranger into his home because of their love of music.

3. The recording of the "Land of Smiles" featured Soprano Elizabeth Schwartzkopf, who was a Nazi party member, and neither Dad nor Al batted an eye. I was totally freaked out when I learned of her affiliation many years later. (As a matter of fact, I won't buy any more Pink Floyd records because of their antisemitism, but that's just me.) No, those two veterans just closed their eyes in enjoyment of her beautiful voice singing those lovely melodies in Ultra High Fidelity. It has been a mystery to me for a good part of my life!

My only explanation could be that both Dad and Al knew that Schwartzkopf was between a rock and a hard place. She had trained all her life to sing, and now her whole country would be against her if she didn't toe the Party Line. Her career would be over. She would be ruined forever, and maybe even arrested. She took the easy way out, but it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. As a person who devoted my entire life to developing my voice, I wonder how I would respond when faced with those kind of choices. But, of course, it could NEVER happen here...or could it?

Today's Name is "Lord God Almighty". The word "Almighty" in Greek is Παντοκράτωρ (pan-tok-rat'-ore) Strong's 3841. It means "Ruler of Everything". (Pan = All, and Kratore = Ruler). It is similar to the Hebrew Name "Melech H'Olam" (King of the Universe).

Of all the pathological "hates" in the world, antisemitism seems to me to be the most illogical. After all, the Jews gave us our Bible, which is the Foundation for Western Literature, the concept of Ethical Monotheism, which is the Foundation of our Religion, and, for Christians, The Messiah, who has given us the Foundation for Art, Music, Culture, and Civilization.

Aha. I think I just answered my own question.
