There was a local pastor who wanted to sleep with the daughter of a congregant so he started preaching about Polygamy. Within a few months, he was picking up the girl from school in a convertible donated by a congregant. Sure enough, they got “married”. His real wife ended up in the Bug House.
I bet Tony has an even better story.

In cases like this the sudden contrition usually means a story is about to break and the person is trying to get ahead of the news.

Is this the guy who screams his whole sermon? If so, I liked what I heard when I listened to him but could only take so much. Sounds like he’s more out of line than just this latest failing.

Evans is also known for his inclusivist heresy, which dangerously undermines the exclusivity of Christ for salvation. He has been quoted saying that if a person acknowledges a higher power and seeks truth but dies before explicitly knowing Christ, God would judge them based on their intent rather than their faith in Christ alone. This heresy dilutes the gospel’s core message that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus Christ Not really, Tony argues in the same way ancient Israelites were saved (without knowledge of Christ), that God the Father works in similar way with those that don’t know Christ … remember, Christ said, “Verily I say unto you, on that day, not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ (those claiming a relationship with Christ), will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of the Father” …
I know this doesn’t sit well with many Evangelicals, …

I used to listen to Evans radio program 40 years ago and liked him a lot. I'm not sure if all of these theological stances developed since then, or were just suppressed from the public, but he had always been a Christian role model for the black community, stressing permanent marriage and celibacy beforehand, responsible Christian living, and a disdain for popular black ghetto culture, including the degradated language.
His church was large and thriving and included a LOT of white congregants. I visited to listen to David Wilkerson as a guess preacher once.

Sounds like the good reverend is getting out of Dodge fast. Usually after 48 years he would have a big retirement party with beaucoup going away gifts. What he did must really smell bad for him to forgo the big pay day.

When you understand Romans 4, you’ll see how Abraham was saved… by faith in what God revealed to Abraham.
I don’t think you have a clear understanding of Biblical theology, so I’d suggest you read and study all of Romans.

Praying for Tony Evans.
Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2

When you understand Romans 4, you’ll see how Abraham was saved… by faith in what God revealed to Abraham. That’s exactly Tony’s point -
“There remain…in man since the fall, the glimmerings of natural light, whereby he retains some knowledge of God, of natural things, and of the difference between good and evil, and shows some regard for virtue and for good outward behavior” (Canons of Dort, III/IV. 3)
Tony argues, faith in this unknown God, can lead to salvation based upon Christ’s work at the cross AND pouring out his Spirit on the World…

You are mixing categories here.
Our innate knowledge of good and evil is enough to condemn us for our sin, but is totally insufficient to bring us salvation.
Abraham was saved by Grace through faith in God’s promises, not through the narrow out-of-context quote from Dort which would be in opposition to their sola gratia doctrine.

I should add, obedience to the natural truth that has been revealed can lead to salvation … this would explain Christ’s remarks about those that ‘do the will of the Father’ entering into the Kingdom …. Analogy: you’re drowning in the ocean, and Christ throws you a rope and tells you to wrap it around your body. You do what he says and get saved. Your obedience saves you - you didn’t save yourself because of your works, you did what God expected of you, and not perfectly - Christ covered your imperfections, and without him initiating the rescue, you couldn’t be saved.
But I get, Post WW2 evangelicalism doesn’t go along with this theology…
