Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Lord and Heavenly Father
You are the GOD that Judges the Earth
You Are The Righteous Judge!
You are Always Just, Always Fair, And Always Right.
Even When We Don't Understand
And everything seems upside down.
Your ways are not our ways,
And Your Thoughts are not our Thoughts.
For now, we see everything as in a smoky mirror.
But When we see You Face to Face, it will all become clear.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.
Then men will say, "Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The Names and Titles of God (The King Eternal) 1 Timothy 1:17

We will be camping out on Today's verse, because there are a number of Names and Titles for God in this little Passage of Scripture. It occurs in Paul's first Letter to Timothy, a young pastor of a nascent church. Paul had founded the church, trained Timothy, and then moved on. However, Paul stayed in touch in the only way possible in those days, by writing letters. These letters were treasured, copied many times, memorized, and shared with other churches. Eventually they became part of the Canon of Scripture. Because of this, we are still able to enjoy them today.

One could argue that we have it so much better today than Paul did. If this were Today, Pastor Tim could shoot a text to his Mentor saying:

YIKES! HAVING ISSUE WITH DEACONS!!!!! R U AVAIL 2 TALK?????"

and Paul would text back:

"NO PROB, BRO. C U NEXT MON ON ZOOM CALL @ 5:30 OK????"

Somehow that doesn't flow as nicely as the King James Version.

Paul always opened his letters with a formal Salutation, followed by a message to the recipients of the letter in the form of a prayer. More often than not, Paul would put the Greeting:

"Grace and Peace to You."

Then he would merge that into what we now call a "Doxology Prayer".

This is a Short Hymn of Praise to God, which often has a little teaching in it.

1 Timothy 1:17 is a Doxology which Praise God as "The King Eternal, Immortal, Invisible, the Only Wise God.." Today we will talk about the First Name on this list.

We recently witnessed the end of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain. She ruled for 70 years, the longest reign of any British Monarch in History. Her son, Charles, ascended the throne, but he is no Spring Chicken, and we may see his son William crowned in our lifetime. For as long as I had been alive, Elizabeth was the Reigning Monarch in England. She was a Veteran of WW2, just like my Dad. Although I am a Proud American, and believe totally in our Constitutional Republic, I LIKED Elizabeth. But, like us all, she was human, and would not reign forever. Her passing and the subsequent reign of her son (whom I don't like very much) brought home how mortal all of us really are.

But, in this Doxology, Paul gives Glory and Honor to the King. There is no end to His Reign, no successor, no "heir apparent", no "Prince of Wales" waiting in the wings. Jesus is All There Is. He is The King Eternal.
