TRUE STORY: Although accommodations are made for people in wheelchairs, Ft. Lauderdale Airport was especially crowded and chaotic that morning. Stella struggled with her wheelchair, with her granddaughter Sharona (My Ten-Year-Old Voice Student) pushing her through the crowd. The Announcement came that "Passengers with Special Needs" were boarding, and Stella was having difficulty. Suddenly, a large, strong, good-looking man grabbed the handles of the wheelchair from Sharona and Wheeled through the crowd to get them to the Gate. When they got to the Gate, the man instructed the attendant to seat Stella and Sharona in HIS OWN First Class seats, and he and his companion would take Stella's Coach Seats. The Attendant complied, and the man left to take his place in line.

When they were comfortably seated in First Class, Stella asked who that nice man was who gave up his seats for them.

The Flight Attendant said:

"You didn't recognize him? That's a famous Wrestler, but he's now in the movies. His name is Dwayne Johnson, be He's called THE ROCK".

Now, no matter what Dwayne Johnson may do or say, that story will always come to my mind when I hear his name.

What was a Chivalrous Good Deed could have been misinterpreted. If Stella or Sharona had resisted "The Rock" or refused to "Let Go" control of the wheelchair, it could have devolved into a "scene". If the Attendant had refused to change the seating arrangement, that could have started an argument. "The Rock" might have been arrested for interfering with a Flight Attendant. Other passengers might have objected and made trouble. But none of that happened. For some reason (probably the result of the "REAL ROCK"), everything just fell into place.

There are so many Scriptures that call both Jesus and The Father "The Rock", and they appear in several contexts. In Today's Scripture from 2 Samuel, it is in the context of a song composed by David upon being delivered from his enemies. It is one of those Psalms that appear in the Bible separate from the BOOK of Psalms. Some of them are very similar, but when they appear in context like this, they show that David, like many Songwriters, are at their best when during or immediately after a huge crisis in their lives. I have learned the hard way that, during a crisis, I would not succeed if I didn't let go of my own strength and cling to The Rock of My Salvation.
