If there has been a more blatant example of Matthew 19:24 being played out in modern times than the Furtick family, I’ve not seen it. Jesus’s words were clear, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
It’s one thing to cover your expenses, and there’s nothing wrong with earning a living in ministry. But this isn’t ministry, it’s charlatanry, and when you’re bilking your followers for millions of dollars by preaching a false, ear-tickling gospel, one must ask who are what you really serve: God or Mammon?
But if you’ve been wondering where all that money he’s bilking from his followers is going, just look at his style. Heard of the Instagram page, Preachers n’ Sneakers? Well, this is Preachers n’ Sweaters—2,000-dollar sweaters, to be exact.
During his Easter sermon, our friends at Protestia pointed out that Furtick essentially preached himself into the resurrection narrative, “where His grave represents YOUR depression and failure, and Galilee represents a better life YOU want to live.” We call that narcigesis—narcisistic eisegesis.
And he does this while wearing a $1,950 Neiman Marcus sweater.

That’s a terrible looking sweater.
I so agree and I can’t believe it would cost that much!
He certainly looks gay in that sweater.
“I can’t believe it would cost that much!”
The sweater doesn’t cost that much. It’s the “Neiman Marcus” tag that does.
I did a security shift at a high end fashion store overnight. The stuff was not any higher quality than what you might buy at a target, but the prices were unreal.
Like $2000 for a pair of sneakers, made the same way as a pair of sneakers. $5000 for a blazer jacket. Stuff like that.
It's advertised as a holey sweater...
The only thing worse than that sweater is this ad-laden blog
I’ve never heard of him before. The price might not matter, since it could’ve been a gift, but his message and his look-at-me attire doesn’t seem to glorify God or what Jesus did for all of humanity.
The price? Holey Moley!
One of the shops there was selling a WWII style flight jacket for close to $10,000.
It was a really well made jacket - outstanding workmanship with the highest grade leathers and hardware.
I recognized the workmanship and details and it came from one of the premier makers of leather flight jackets. They were very expensive and sold for about $1500 under the original makers label.
This shop marked the jacket up around $9000.00 and the snooty sales guy derided me as loser unless I had the wherewithal and willingness to pay his price for the jacket. Lots of people up in Aspen with a lot more money than sense.
Jesus is coming back and boy, is he pissed. This imposter will be one of the first to ride an express elevator to Hell.
The only message I get from these clothing at these prices is the psychological reward of being able to afford to pay 15 times the price what a normal person pays for the same thing.
He’s proud of that sweater and he’s proud of the cost of that sweater. There’s a serman in there someplace...
He’s with Elevation church..,,I love their Worship…him, not so much.

While I also think the price is ridiculous, imagine the costs of running a shop in Aspen.
The rental, hiring help, taxes, utility bills, insurance for all of the merchandise and the store, fees, etc.
"Your surprise is waiting."
That’s an “I make more money and I’m better than you” sweater.

I miss Reverend Ike. That man knew how to live.
