Church is Giving Away Prizes, Including Cash, for Attending Easter Sunday Service

If you have to pay people to come to church, you might have a dead church. Jesus promised He would build his church on the solid rock of faith—faith in the atoning work of Christ on the cross. Yet, some “churches” either don’t believe that, or are just simply dissatisfied with Christ’s craftsmanship.

So what do they do? They turn to gimmicks, entertainment, and … cash prizes.

The Cross Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia, will be giving away door prizes, holding an Easter egg hunt with over 3 thousand eggs, and giving away hundreds of dollars in cash to people for bringing the most goats to church to lap up all the milk.

TOPICS: Evangelical Christian
KEYWORDS: crosschurch; parkersburg; westvirginia
It would be in West Virginia this time.

Outreach programs are good things, and the church should indeed serve their communities - but you can lose your way with them and take it too far - the church must avoid allowing them become more of a game than actual outreach.

The best giveaway in an Easter or Christmas service is a short, relevant welcoming sermon and afterwards a hearty handshake and sincere smile from fellow churchgoers. “How nice to have you join us today. Where y’all from? [Chat, chat] Hope to see you again soon.” AND! Keep amateur BillyBob inquisitors at bay.

Hookers, drugs and cash!! Come to our Christ centered Bible believing old fashioned church for your eternal salvation. Bring the family and kids. Come as you are. We don't judge anybody.

Is this what it has come to? We are living in the last times.

I’ve been involved with churches that give prizes at Vacation Bible School to kids who memorize the most Bible verses or bring the most other kids. I won one when I was a kid.

I also went to Bible camp for free by learning verses. I became a Christian at the camp and am still marginally involved 50 years later. for 20 years I was a bus driver transporting kids to camp. My kids have all worked there on staff or as counselors.

I don’t really see the issue. I recall a Bible verse that said something like “I become all things to all people so that I may win some to Christ.”

I found this very interesting. This must be a large church to be able to do this for Easter. I have a hunch it may eventually be a smaller church if they don’t get back to the Truth in their doctrine & beliefs. Getting paid to come to church is tempting, but I would suggest this is not God’s way to look at it.

Will the cash be in plastic Easter eggs?
