An Episcopal priest competing in a Jeopardy Tournament failed to advance to the finals, the result of falling badly behind and also being stumped by a question on the New Testament, according to the Episcopal News Service.
David Sibley is the LGBTQ+ affirming rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla, Washington, who recently participated in a Jeopardy Tournament.
He previously competed in 2022, where he won $79,098 through four straight episodes. During that contest, he failed to answer a $1000 question: “It’s the ascension heavenward by true Christians both living and dead at Christ’s second coming.”
Rather than a buzz in “What is the rapture,” he let the answer pass him by, later explaining on Reddit:
“Here’s the thing—I don’t believe in the rapture. In fact, most Christians don’t hold the rapture as a doctrine and haven’t for most of church history—the literal reading of Revelation is a product of the modern era, not the patristic era. As written, I thought the clue’s correct response required “Christians” to mean all Christians (or at least all Christians other than tiny splinter groups). It was too late when I got to what they wanted.”
However, he was never in serious contention during this match, with a competitor taking an early insurmountable lead. During ‘Final Jeopardy’ the category was ‘New Testament,’ and the contestants were asked: “This city now in Turkey is the addressee of one of the New Testament epistles & the setting for ‘The Comedy of Errors.'”
Sibley guessed “Corinth,” whereas the correct answer was “What is Ephesus.”

Find rapture in the Bible. I’ll give you ten years. Was that word the actual answer? If so, that would be wrong as that concept-derived word is associated with the pretrib catching away of believers which is not a uniform belief of Christians. But the man could have answered "the first resurrection," (Revelation 20:5) “the resurrection of life, ” (Jn. 5:29a) "of the just." (Luke 14:14) in "the day of Christ " (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2) which is "the ascension heavenward by true Christians both living and dead at Christ’s second coming.” And which I see as being at the end of the tribulation. (Matthew 24:30,31)
And wherever Scripture clearly speak of the next conscious reality for those of effectual faith then it is with the Lord, at death or His return (whatever comes first), by the grace of God. (Lk. 23:43 [cf. 2Cor. 12:4; Rv. 2:7]; Phil 1:23; 2Cor. 5:8 [“we”]; 1Cor. 15:51ff'; 1Thess. 4:17) In contrast to those who were never born of the Spirit or who terminally fall away. (Gal. 5:1-4; Heb. 3:12; 10:25-39)
More.

You go find Trinity in the Bible. We can have a race to see who finishes last? Go find "Bible" in the Bible. Or "prevenient grace," "theocratic kingdom" or many other terms which describe things which the Bible actually teaches.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

I agree with you completely. With the common understanding that "harpazo" became "raeptius" became "rapture" it is undeniable that the Bible says we will be "snatched up" to meet the Lord upon His return. In a word, we will be "raptured" because the Bible says we will be raptured and to argue otherwise is to argue against the language of the Bible itself. I thought everyone held this understanding. It was always a question of "when" (pre/post/mid) and not "if". Weird how things change.

Well, you win my respect for your knowledge in the study of the most mysterious and misunderstood book of the New Testament. According to what is written in that very book you win a much more important blessing:”Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” (Rev1:3-7) God is pleased with you and believers are given hope through your boldness to profess it to others. Thank you.

Like Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox, Protestants believe in Christ's Second Coming and Judgment Day. There are disputes as to whether good and evil will coexist until Judgment Day after which Christ will establish a new heavens and a new earth (amillenialism), whether the church will establish the kingdom of God on earth and subdue evil after which Christ will return (postmillenialism), or whether the world will deteriorate to the point where John's narrative in Revelation actually happens, until Christ returns, crushes His enemies and establish the millennial kingdom (premillennialism). Augustine of Hippo expressed the opinion that Revelation was largely symbolic, and his opinion was accepted by Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and the early Protestants like Luther, Calvin, and Cranmer.
The Rapture doctrine is that the church will be removed from.earth before the seven year tribulation period preceding Christ's Second Coming. This doctrine had scant support until an Irish clergyman, John Nelson Darby, developed the doctrine. The Rapture doctrine fits in with dispensational theology, which holds to the position that the church did not become the New Israel, but that the church and national Israel have separate roles in God's plan. Not only liberals, but also Bible believing Lutherans, Reformed, Anglicans, and Church of Christ members, reject.the Rapture doctrine and dispensationalism generally.
However, due to persuasive advocates of dispensationalism such as C.I. Scofield, H. A. Ironside, John Walvoord, and Hal Lindsay, dispensational theology became dominant among Baptists, Pentecostal, and charismatic churches.

Sibley guessed “Corinth,” whereas the correct answer was “What is Ephesus.”INDEED!
Two problems: the wrong city, and, the BIGGEST problem, there is no epistle labeled CORINTH!
I got the answer right.
It was a softball question.

Does THIS count; even though it took less than 10 minutes?
Matthew 24:40-42 King James Version40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. |
The Rapture of the church means the carrying away of the church from earth to heaven.
The Greek word from this term "rapture" is derived appears in 1 Thessalonians 4:17, translated "caught up.".
The Latin translation of this verse used the word rapturo. The Greek word it translates is harpazo, which means to snatch or take away.

This Jeopardy "answer" is theologically messed up and therefore invalid. The Rapture is not the second coming of Jesus.True!
Jesus has been back a BUNCH of times, revealing Himself to the ONLY 'true' church - The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latterday Saints.

Perhaps he'll be re-reading the bible to see where he missed the question, and his eyes will fall upon this:
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. |
If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...
Now that we've raked him properly over the coals, let us now vow to PRAY for the man!
Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual,
restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness;
looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
GALATIANS 6:1 ASV
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness;
but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish,
but that all should come to repentance.
2 PETER 3:9 ASV
