Interstate 95 goes all the way from Maine to Miami, FL. It was so weird that the same Highway that got me from one place to another in Massachusetts, also took me from city to city in Florida. Technically, one can ride from one end to the other and never leave the highway, but that means that you will have to ride your shiny Harley through the Trans-Bronx Expressway and over the GW Bridge in New York City, which is a nightmare.. and you have to pay a toll for the privilege!

My brother had occasion to be on the Trans -Bronx Expressway (which is sunk down into the ground below street level), and he got a flat tire. As he was opening the trunk to get his spare, he noticed that the front hood was open. He ran around to the front and was confronted by a man who was disconnecting the battery. When my brother yelled at the guy, he responded:

"Hey, no problem man. I'm just taking the battery. You can HAVE the wheels!"

"After convincing the "gentleman" that it was HIS battery in HIS car the guy was stealing, and elucidating this fact In colorful terms, my brother chased the guy off.

I counseled my brother to avoid that stretch of I95, and showed him some alternate routes. Some of these took longer but were a little more scenic

I knew my way around the highway from years of attending Rolling Thunder. The ride from Boston to DC only took ten hours if you did it as a straight shot down I95, but it was far more pleasant to divide the ride into two portions and stay overnight in a Motel halfway, in New York State. I obtained this wise counsel from other riders who had been doing the Run for more years than my husband and I had.

In the Days before GPS and Cell Phones, we used maps and landmarks to get from one place to another. The Wise Counsel, from somebody who had been there before, guided us. It was so much nicer to meander home through the hills of Pennsylvania, visiting Battlefields and Historic Places, looking at the scenery, and making the RIDE part of the adventure. We were so grateful to the older, wiser, Vietnam Vets who guided us in these yearly pilgrimages.

Never refuse Wise Counsel. You WILL miss out if you do.

Today we explore a New Scripture Verse that has Four Names and Titles of God. This is one of those verses that is often printed on religious Christmas Cards, because it predicts the Birth of the Messiah. However, I think it goes even deeper than that. The First Name in this Verse is "Wonderful Counselor". This could mean any or all of the following:

This could mean The Holy Spirit, Who is called the "Paraclete" in Greek. A paraclete was a type of counselor, one who was called alongside to assist, advocate for, and advise a person. More than a lawyer, a Paraclete was a trusted friend and "Right-Hand-Man".

Jesus called The Holy Spirit "The Comforter", which fits the description of a Paraclete nicely. You expect a lawyer to defend you, and to offer wise advice, but you can't really expect him to comfort you. That would be outside of his purview. Yet, Our "Wonderful Counselor" is also our "Paraclete, Our Comforter, Our Advisor, Our Advocate, Our Defender, and Our Friend, as well as being the one with wise advice. He's been on all the roads before us, and He knows the Right Route.
