It’s a wonderful poem. Even the lowly donkey knows how blessed he is.
Donkeys have quite the opposite disposition from horses. Horses willingly carry their riders into battle, whereas donkeys are protective—which is why donkeys are preferred for carrying riders on the narrow cliff-side trails down into the Grand Canyon.
From what I see on YouTube from people who keep donkeys as pets, these animals often enjoy human company and can be very affectionate:

Mules have inherited the best qualities of both. Met a rancher in Utah, he would only ride Mules.
