Abba, Father,
How Wonderful You Are!
And LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy To be Praised,
For You Alone Are The One true God of The Universe.

Years ago, a TV Program premiered in Boston called This Old House. It was one of the first "Reality Shows", in which an old, dilapidated house in Boston was renovated, step by step. It was very entertaining, and used actual local tradesmen in the cast. I followed it eagerly for many seasons. Now, HGTV has TOO MANY of this type of program, and it's getting a bit boring. Nothing can match the informative and entertainment of the original, in my humble opinion.

The first house they worked on was in Dorchester, a section of Boston, on a corner lot. The house was on a little hill made of solid granite, surrounded by a granite wall, and built upon a granite foundation. As I recall, it was a huge old Victorian that had fallen to ruin. At least the base was solid, so the work was all on the house itself, not the foundation, thank goodness. That would have thrown the first episode way over budget and probably would have ended the series.

Later remodels took the crew further out of Boston to some rural areas. Here, the ground was not so solid, and sometimes, (insert descending chords of doom) the whole house would have to be raised on jacks and the entire foundation replaced. This could add five figures to the already stretched remodeling budget. The poor, hapless homeowner knew that this step HAD to be done before any remodeling could take place. It added a bit of drama to the program so it didn't turn out to be a repeat of the previous one.

The first home I ever bought was in Boston, a two-family, on a granite hill, with a granite foundation. I paid $36,900. for it in 1975. I sold it in 1985 for $85,000. It is now resplendent on the hill and houses two luxury condos that went for a half-million each. My theory is that it will stand there forever because it is on a Stone foundation.

We will be staying on today's Scripture for a few days, as it has several descriptive titles for God and His Messiah. Today's word is "Stone". Nothing describes the permanence and endurance of stone like granite. Yet, even granite can eventually fail. The fall of the granite formation in New Hampshire called The Old Man Of The Mountain shows us that anything that has been created can also fall apart. Even Stone has to be tested for strength, and to insure that there are no hidden cracks or fissures than can cause the stone to break apart. Tomorrow we will talk about that testing.
