Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem (2/19/24)[Prayer]

The Names and Titles of God (YHVH - Nissi God Our Banner)

Exodus 17:

8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-Nissi:

16 For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

(King James Version)

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name over All The Earth!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Our Banner.
You Alone Are The King of the Universe!
Ancient of Days,
You Are The One True God of Abraham,
and We Praise and Worship You with Our Whole Heart,
Soul, Mind, and Spirit!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Although this is not one of the better remembered Bible Stories, it is a great one. It has application to Politics, Religion, and even Family Matters.

I will look at each aspect individually, and then wrap it up with Today's Name for God, YHVH-Nissi (The LORD, My Banner).

First, a little background. The Amalekites were descended from Esau, the older twin brother of Jacob (later named Israel). Since the boy Amelek was raised in Esau's trabal community, he was probably subjected to constant propaganda of hatred and loathing for his grand-uncle Israel. When Amalek had a tribe of their own, they already hated Israel with a passion, even though none of them had probably ever met a real Israelite. Remember that for four centuries, Israel was slaving away in Egypt, and the Amalakites occupied the area around the Negev. When the Israelites came back to their land, they had to pass through that area. They asked for peaceful passage, and promised they wouldn't touch anything but just stay to the road, but the Amalekites wouldn't have it. The Amalakites began to harass the huge caravan of Israelites, picking at the stragglers, the weak, the elderly, women, and children. It was horrible. Then, they went forward with an unprovoked, surprise attack.

1. Political Significance: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech recently, comparing the Current Situation with Israel's Relationship with the Amalakites in the Bible.Video.

Some people call the obscene hatred and antisemitism as "The Spirit of Amalek". Whether this "spirit" is born of centuries of brainwashing, or an actual entity from the pit of hell, it exists. All one has to do is look at the hallowed halls of Ivy League Universities to see it in action. Finally, in an unprovoked sneak attack, the Amelakite and the Israelite Armies are engaged, and Moses, who was in his eighties, was up on a mountain directing the Battle with his staff. When the staff was raised, the Battle went in favor of Israel, but when it was lowered, it favored the Amaakites. Aaron and Hur, (not spring chickens either!) held up the arms of Moses so that the Israelites prevailed.

Politically, this illustrates a principle that has come down through the ages. Sneak attacks are reprehensible, especially when they are against the innocent. Pearl Harbor, September 11th, and October 7th are all examples of how important allies are when the innocent are attacked. Aaron and Hur helped out greatly, but, ultimately, the Victory came from God.

2. Religion: Every army wants to think that they have "God on their side". In fact, the name of the Terror Organization "Hezbollah" means "Army of God". I'll bet the Amalakites thought that God was on their side too. During America's own Civil War, BOTH sides believed that God was on their side. As I mentioned in this thread earlier, people who believe that are missing the point. It's not whether God is on your side. What does matter is if YOU are on God's Side. If you don't live according to His principles and statutes, then don't expect Him to uphold your cause.

3. Personal Life: Sometimes we are called to be a "Moses", to lead, instruct, or inspire. Sometimes, we are called to be an Aaron or a Hur, to be an Ally, a Helper, a Supporter, and an Encourager. Both positions are admirable. We can't all be leaders but we can all be encouragers.

Today's Wonderful Name of God is Yahweh-Nissi, or "God, Our Banner". Moses's staff, when held high, was a sign that God was in the battle, and that, in fact, the Battle was HIS. When the Banner is held high, we need to LOOK at it, not to ourselves. Otherwise we become self-absorbed LOSERS.

Psalm 86

A Prayer of David.

1 Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my life, for I am devoted to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God; 3be gracious to me, O Lord,
for to you do I cry all day long.
4 Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.
6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
listen to my cry of supplication.
7 In the day of my trouble I call on you,
for you will answer me.

8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
9 All the nations you have made shall come
and bow down before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
10 For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart to revere your name.
12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name for ever.
13 For great is your steadfast love towards me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 O God, the insolent rise up against me;
a band of ruffians seeks my life,
and they do not set you before them.
15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me;
give your strength to your servant;
save the child of your serving-maid.
17 Show me a sign of your favour,
so that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame,
because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
