Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The Scriptures In Handel’s Messiah

Job 19:25-26

25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

1 Corinthians 15:20:

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

(King James Version)

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Everlasting Father,
How Hallowed is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

How many times have you seen on Social Media, a person asking for prayer, and getting it, but also critical messages implying that the person must have done something to deserve his misfortune? (An example would be a request for prayer for the healing of lung cancer and the response is "Were you a smoker?")

The Book of Job is like that, only worse! Job loses everything, and his friends show up to offer him their condolences, and then, for over thirty chapters, wrangle with Job over why this stuff happened to him. Job keeps trying to defend himself, which is only natural, but it gets worse and worse until God finally intervenes.

Even as he professes his innocence, Job never blames God. Suddenly in the midst of all this abuse from his so-called "friends" Job declares:

I Know That My Redeemer Lives!

Since The Book of Job is considered to be even older than the Torah, this declaration was made even before God called Abram out of Ur.

Charles Jennens combined two Scriptures for the Magnificent Opening of ACT 3. It is a hard act to follow after the ending of ACT 2 (the Hallelujah Chorus), but Handel takes care of it Beautifully.

The first Scripture, from the Book of Job, is remarkable, as it speaks of God as a LIVING REDEEMER. Many Biblical Scholars consider Job to be the oldest Book in the Bible. So here is an Ancient Man, Before the Torah, Before the Law, Before Judaism or Christianity, and AFTER going through horrendous suffering, declaring God His Redeemer, and KNOWING that He is a LIVING God, not a man-made idol of stone or wood.

The Second Scripture presents the words of St. Paul in his Letter to the Church in Corinth. Paul's argument for the Resurrection is that "religion" is pointless if we do not believe in a LIVING GOD.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

The Greatest of These is Love (1 Corinthians 13)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

I liked the voice...a fresh, light soprano.

And I am getting better, one day at a time. Tippy is 100% recovered, which makes my day easier! :-)

Psalm 49

To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.

1 Hear this, all you peoples;
give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
2 both low and high,
rich and poor together.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom;
the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
4 I will incline my ear to a proverb;
I will solve my riddle to the music of the harp.

5 Why should I fear in times of trouble,
when the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,
6 those who trust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?
7 Truly, no ransom avails for one’s life,*
there is no price one can give to God for it.
8 For the ransom of life is costly,
and can never suffice,
9 that one should live on for ever
and never see the grave.*

10 When we look at the wise, they die;
fool and dolt perish together
and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves* are their homes for ever,
their dwelling-places to all generations,
though they named lands their own.
12 Mortals cannot abide in their pomp;
they are like the animals that perish.

13 Such is the fate of the foolhardy,
the end of those* who are pleased with their lot.
Selah
14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
Death shall be their shepherd;
straight to the grave they descend,*
and their form shall waste away;
Sheol shall be their home.*
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me.
Selah

16 Do not be afraid when some become rich,
when the wealth of their houses increases.
17 For when they die they will carry nothing away;
their wealth will not go down after them.
18 Though in their lifetime they count themselves happy
—for you are praised when you do well for yourself—
19 they* will go to the company of their ancestors,
who will never again see the light.
20 Mortals cannot abide in their pomp;
they are like the animals that perish.
