Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 2:4

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

During my first visit to Kauai in 1991, an excursion boat brought us into a small crater that had become a breathtaking ocean feature. When the tide was right, a boat could slip in through the remnants of a lava tube, and be surrounded by nearly circular walls of rock on all sides. The captain warned the tourists on the boat to never attempt to go here by yourself, because the ocean was unpredictable, and the currents were strong enough to sweep a small boat out to sea. The name of this geological wonder was"The Queen's Bath".

The next time I went to Kauai, I was informed that Queen's Bath could be approached from the land. Of course, I had to go exploring, so I walked around the neighborhood until I found a small, hand-lettered sign that said:

QUEEN'S BATH
USE TRAIL AT OWN RISK

Woo Hoo! I found it! The sign beckoned, and I climbed down a muddy sea cliff to the rocky bit of shore that was being pounded by surf. It was magnificent. I got some great pictures, and then crawled back up the muddy path (RED mud that never washes out) and got bragging rights that I hiked Queen's Bath and took some awesome pictures.

The next time I went to Kauai, I couldn't remember what neighborhood road led to Queen's Bath. I asked the Concierge at our resort, but she flat out REFUSED to tell me how to get to the site. She said it had something to do with "Liability Insurance".

Well, that wasn't going to stop me! I walked down street after street, always heading makai (towards the ocean) until I found the trail. The little sign was still there. I FOUND IT!

Once again, I negotiated the muddy trail, but due to the season, a stream made the trail even more slippery. The stream ended in a lovely waterfall cascading into the sea, so I had to cut another trail through the underbrush to get down to the rocks below.

At the bottom of the trail, next to the splashing waterfall, was another hand-lettered sign:

PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIED THIS YEAR AT QUEEN'S BATH:

followed by a list of about a dozen names.

I took one picture of the crashing waves, and headed up the path, never to attempt Queen's Bath again.

The Hawaiians have a saying: "Never turn your back to the Ocean."

This is because the Ocean is more powerful than any person could imagine. A person swept off the rocks by a giant wave doesn't have a chance. And yet, there are people who think that somehow, they are immune to the effects of this overwhelming force.

This is the Message of Psalm 2. The Kings of the Earth hold their meetings (in Davros, Brussels, Washington DC, Bohemian Grove, or wherever) and discuss how THEY are going to rule the world. Because of their vast wealth, incredible technology, and profound global influence, they sincerely believe that they will succeed.

And yet, He Who Sits On The Throne, the Ultimate Power and Creator of the Universe, LAUGHS.

Like those on the hand-lettered sign at Queen's Bath, These Kings and Oligarchs will end up being just names on a list that, during a storm, will also be swept out to sea.

But the King of Kings and Lord of Lords shall reign forever and ever.
