Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba, Father,
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
As the Nations Rage So Furiously Against You
They have a False Notion of what Constitutes Freedom.
They Substitute Evil for Good,
Darkness for Light,
Bitter For Sweet,
And the Slavery of Sin for the Freedom that Comes With the Truth.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 129
A Song of Ascents.
1 ‘Often have they attacked me from my youth’
—let Israel now say—
2 ‘often have they attacked me from my youth,
yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 Those who plough ploughed on my back;
they made their furrows long.’
4 The Lord is righteous;
he has cut the cords of the wicked.
5 May all who hate Zion
be put to shame and turned back.
6 Let them be like the grass on the housetops
that withers before it grows up,
7 with which reapers do not fill their hands
or binders of sheaves their arms,
8 while those who pass by do not say,
‘The blessing of the Lord be upon you!
We bless you in the name of the Lord!’

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 2:3
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

"Let us break our bonds asunder..."
This roar of the nations in turmoil and rebellion against the LORD bears a haunting resemblance to Marx's cry, "You have nothing to lose but your chains." What sounded like a cool slogan during the Industrial Revolution rings hollow now, as we see millions of people suffering under the chains of communism.
In my search for images to illustrate Today's Thread, I came across a lot of pictures that depicted Jesus breaking the chains that bind us. Even a popular setting of "Amazing Grace" contains a new section called "My Chains Are Gone". This is all very true and Scriptural, but ignores the context of this particular declaration of chain-breaking in Psalm 2. Handel didn't help context any by making each line a separate song. Here's the link for Today's Selection. The Passage is not people celebrating the breaking of the chains of sin and death. In context, the chains are those that make Civilization livable: the Rule of Law, Morality, and Ethics. The people are not celebrating Freedom, they are Complaining about having to live like humans in an orderly society.
Here is the context: The "nations" rage, and plot together to overthrow God. Their slogan is "Let us break the chains and throw off our yoke." This is not a cry for Freedom and Justice, but a call for anarchy.
But, as we have seen in our own time, even anarchy has its chains. The Classic Novel Lord Of The Flies illustrates this quite graphically. When people don't adhere to some standard of morality, anarchy ensues.
We hear this anarchy in the music. The voices sound like they are running around in circles and crashing into each other. It is very similar to the anarchy implied in the earlier Chorus All We Like Sheep, although the sheep present a more lazy and gentle anarchy then Today's Selection.
In both situations, the "sheep" are without a shepherd. It's a dangerous place to be.
