Matthew 1

The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah

1 This is the genealogy[a] of Jesus the Messiah[b] the son of David, the son of Abraham:

2 Abraham was the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron,
Hezron the father of Ram,
4 Ram the father of Amminadab,
Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,
Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,
Obed the father of Jesse,
6 and Jesse the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah,
Abijah the father of Asa,
8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,
Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
9 Uzziah the father of Jotham,
Jotham the father of Ahaz,
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amon,
Amon the father of Josiah,
11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[c] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.

12 After the exile to Babylon:

Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13 Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,
Abihud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
14 Azor the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Akim,
Akim the father of Elihud,

17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Bless the LORD,
Oh My Soul,
and let All That is Within Me Bless His Most Holy Name!
Abba, Father,
We Praise and Worship You,
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
As the Nations Rage So Furiously Against You,
And Against Your People,
We Know That You Are Our Shelter,
Our Strength and our Song,
Our Refuge in Times of Trouble,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Well, now I've gone and done it. I have taken you from the cinematic action of the Book of Acts and plunked you down into a Genealogy. But bear with me, as this one is very special.

Genealogies meant a lot to the People of Judea. They waited anxiously for The Messiah, and they had a lot to go on in figuring out His Identity. He was to be born in Bethlehem (Micah), live in the Galilee Region (Isaiah), of the Tribe of Judah (Genesis), of the Family of Jesse, and descended from King David. (Isaiah and Psalms).

Since Matthew's Gospel was written by a Jewish Man to the Jewish People, he had to take care of those issues right at the beginning. Technically, in Ancient Genealogies, it was sufficient to just list the fathers, but Matthew does something different. There are FIVE Mothers mentioned in this Genealogy.

The first Mother, Tamar, had a tragic story that popped up right in the middle of the Genesis Narrative of the Patriarch Joseph. In this sordid tale that seems out of place in the stream of Joseph's exciting story, Tamar, widowed twice and "kicked to the curb" by her Father-In-Law Judah, tricks Judah into fathering twin boys by her. (Genesis 39). It is tempting to just skip over this Chapter when reading about the Patriarch Joseph (and I'm sure most Sunday School Teachers DO), but it is what it is. And here's Tamar being mentioned in the Genealogy of The Messiah. She may have been kicked to the curb in Genesis, but here she is in the Gospel, at the head of Main Street.

Next we have Rahab. You can read her story in the Book of Joshua. She was not only a Gentile, she was a Prostitute who lived in a casemate wall in Jericho. She hid the two Israelite Spies and helped them escape. Due to a Promise and a Prearranged signal, Rahab and her family were spared the destruction of Jericho. She married a man of the Tribe of Judah, and ended up here, in the Genealogy of Jesus.

Next we have Ruth. She has her very own Book of the Bible named after her. She was a widow of a Israelite, but she herself was a Gentile, from Moab. Moab was a traditional enemy of the Israelites, but they were descended from Abraham's Nephew Lot, under very sordid and sketchy circumstances right after the Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

After losing her husband in Moab, Ruth accompanied her widowed Mother-In-Law Naomi back to her hometown in Bethlehem, where she met Boaz, and became the Great Grandmother of King David.

Next we have "She Who had been the Wife of Uriah". This was, of course, Bathsheba. Uriah had been one of King David's most trusted Warriors, but while he was away at war, David took Bathsheba. As usual, the cover-up ended up being worse than the original crime, as David sent Uriah on a suicide mission and got him out of the way. This was a grievous sin, and David paid for it dearly. Personally, I don't think Bathsheba had much choice in the matter, but she ended up being the mother of King Solomon, and showed profound influence on David later in his life.

Last of all in this list is Mary, the Mother of Jesus. She was a Virgin from Nazareth, and descended from King David. She was engaged to Joseph, who was also of the House of David. Joseph was about to get the shock of his life before the wedding.

Why does Matthew, under the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, include these Women in his Genealogy? It wasn't necessary in the Tradition of the Times, but here it is. Why, also did he include Gentiles, Moabites, Prostitutes, and Adulteresses? Why not just list some noble queens and princesses from the House of David who would make this a more glittering, exalted lineage?

In my humble opinion, perhaps it was because God wanted us to know that Jesus came for all of us; men and women, Jew and Gentile, "saints" and "sinners". It does make the opening chapter a lot more interesting than just a list of names.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

........................................

I agree! Lord Jesus came to save everyone, not exclusively for the elite. Salvation is offered to all (real inclusion and equal opportunity) even for the common man. Thank you King Jesus!

This genealogy reflects this. It’s amazing.

Prayer Of Thanksgiving For My Salvation

Thank You, Father, for sending Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ to come to this earth and to be born into the human race, over two thousand years ago, so that by His death and resurrection we might be able to look to Him as our Redeemer.

Lord, I believe.

I believe that He took the punishment that I deserve, in His body on the cross, when He suffered and died so long ago. I accept that I am a sinner and I understand that the penalty of sin is death, eternal separation from God and all that is good and lovely, honorable and perfect.

And so I thank You Father for Jesus. I thank You for the wonderful plan of salvation that includes even me, and I ask for Your forgiveness of my sins, for I confess You as My Saviour and have come to trust You as my Lord.

Thank You, that the Lord Jesus Christ did all the work of salvation Himself on my behalf, and there is nothing else for me to do, except to believe in His name and receive Your free gift of grace, the everlasting gift of eternal life, which You purposed for all who trust in Jesus.

Thank You, Father,

Amen.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 115

1 Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.
2 Why should the nations say,
‘Where is their God?’

3 Our God is in the heavens;
he does whatever he pleases.
4 Their idols are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
5 They have mouths, but do not speak;
eyes, but do not see.
6 They have ears, but do not hear;
noses, but do not smell.
7 They have hands, but do not feel;
feet, but do not walk;
they make no sound in their throats.
8 Those who make them are like them;
so are all who trust in them.

9 O Israel, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
He is their help and their shield.

12 The Lord has been mindful of us; he will bless us;
he will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron;
13 he will bless those who fear the Lord,
both small and great.

14 May the Lord give you increase,
both you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are the Lord’s heavens,
but the earth he has given to human beings.
17 The dead do not praise the Lord,
nor do any that go down into silence.
18 But we will bless the Lord
from this time on and for evermore.
Praise the Lord!

I’ve had the creeping crud for the last couple weeks myself and it’s no fun at all.

It’s not the sickest I’ve ever been but certainly has lasted longer than most illnesses.
