Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 28

Paul’s Arrival at Rome

11 After three months we put out to sea in a ship that had wintered in the island—it was an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux. 12 We put in at Syracuse and stayed there three days. 13 From there we set sail and arrived at Rhegium. The next day the south wind came up, and on the following day we reached Puteoli. 14 There we found some brothers and sisters who invited us to spend a week with them. And so we came to Rome. 15 The brothers and sisters there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. At the sight of these people Paul thanked God and was encouraged. 16 When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We Praise Your Name.

Thank You For Giving Us Your Word,
Which is so full of Wonderful Things!
We Thank You For Our Mentors and Teachers,
We Pray that You Will Give Them a Double Portion of Your Spirit.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.

of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.

Fifty Four Years ago, (that's over a half century!) my Boyfriend (at the time) Walter took my "best friend" Kathy to The Boston Garden to see the Rolling Stones. I was FURIOUS. I was even more angry when I confronted Walter and he seemed totally clueless about the hurt and betrayal I was feeling.

"I didn't think you liked the Stones," he protested. "I'll take you to see Janis instead."

So I did get to see Janis Joplin in one of her last tours before her death in 1970.

About a year later, I was with my sister, in a queue waiting to get into a Chekhov Play. I made a remark about The Rolling Stones, and a man two people ahead of us turned around to talk to me. He was a huge Stones fan. He ended up becoming my husband.

Years went by, and numerous tours of the Stones came and went. Life intervened, and my husband and I never did get to see them perform live, but we were big fans.

Last night, my Nephew and his Fiancee' sat me and two of my sisters on the couch to give us one Christmas Gift for the Three of us. (OK...that seemed a little strange). We opened the envelope and it was three tickets to The Rolling Stones Concert this coming May 2024. I am still stunned. I only waited 54 years for this! (Now if Mick, Keef, and I can stay alive till May 30, 2024, we'll get 'er done!)

The Book of Acts can be read and even dramatized in three hours, but it covers a large span of time. Even the brief stay in Malta was three months long, and Paul was stuck in Caesarea for over two years. Many of the Churches he planted in Greece and Asia Minor hosted his visits for months and even years at a time. He worked as a Tent-maker, and at other jobs to support himself, even though he taught the Church to "take care" of their Leaders. It was a long Odyssey.

But even Paul's wait was nothing compared to the fulfillment of the Promise made to Adam and Eve of a Redeemer. And it was nothing compared to the years and years of Anticipation, Prophecy, and Yearning that preceded His Birth in Bethlehem.

The Acceleration of Signs in our Own Time point to a Soon Return, and His Glorious Appearing.

If it happens before May 30, 2024, I will NOT be disappointed! :-)

I saw the Stones in Buffalo for the last concert of the Some Girls tour. It was terrible. The audience booed them because the new band opening act Journey stole the show. During the last song Muck Jagger flipped us all the byrd and ran off stage. No encore, just everyone booing them. I never liked them after that. It’s surprising they are still touring. Aren’t they in their 80s now?

I’ve been thinking life is like a race. Towards the end when the finish line comes into view it really puts the afterlife into perspective. Like Paul said “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

The Joy, Peace And Comfort Of Abiding In Christ

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank You for all the things that I am learning through the indwelling Holy Spirit, and that the more I abide in You and rest in Your love, the more I find that the fears and disappointments of life seem to fall into their proper perspective.

What a comfort to know that although we do have troubles and trials in this life, that the Lord Jesus has overcome every single one of them. And all we have to do to access His strength and sufficiency, is to rest in Him and to abide in His love.

It is funny Lord, but for so long I thought that I needed to do lots of good things so that You would give me Your love, Your peace and Your joy. I thought that I had to earn these things. But You have taught me that it is the other way around, and all I have to do is to simply rest in Your love, to receive the peace and joy that only comes from You. What a comfort to understand that it is Your responsibility to carry out the good works that You have already prepared for me to do! And then You do it, through me, in the power of Your Holy Spirit! Wow! Thank You Lord.

Oh how it rejoices my heart and comforts my soul, that You do not have to rely on me, but that all I have to do is to rely on You. Praise Your holy name!
