Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 28

Paul Ashore on Malta

28 Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. 2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. 3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. 6 The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

7 There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. 8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. 9 When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. 10 They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven
We Worship Your Holy Name!
We Love You, LORD.
With Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Soul,
Our Whole Mind,
And Our Strength.
May The Words of Our Mouth,
And the Meditations of Our Heart,
Be Acceptable To You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Our Exciting Story is Coming to an End. After a brief interlude, in which I will revisit the Christmas Story, I will hop back to the Old Testament. But First, let's look at Today's Story as the Plot weaves its way to Rome.

Screenwriting Students are taught that there are very few actual "Plots" that can be used in creating a script. The following few are not necessarily all of them, but are the ones I have noticed:

1. The Classic Love Story : This would include The "Love Triangle", Boy Meets Girl/Boy Loses Girl/Boy Gets Girl Scenarios, and most "Romantic Comedies". It also includes stories of Forbidden Love, like "Romeo and Juliet", "West Side Story" and others.

2. The Quest: One of my favorite plot devices and the basis for such movies as "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Lord of the Rings", "Treasure of The Sierra Madre" etc. Often, the "Quest" is combined with the next plot device.

3. The Struggle Between Good and Evil: "Star Wars", "Dracula", "Ben Hur", etc.

and,

4. Fish Out Of Water: This comic plot device is the basis for dozens of TV Programs and Movies, from "The Beverly Hillbillies" all the way to "Some Like It Hot", "Elf", "Moscow on the Hudson" and so on. It is one of the easiest plot devices to use, and often has the funniest results. It also has been the source of some awesome drama, like "The Man Who Would Be King", and "Apocalypse Now".

The entire Book of Acts encompasses several of these plot devices, even though it is a chronicle of true events that unfold after the Ascension of Jesus. We have the struggle between Good and Evil running all the way through. Then we begin The Quest Portion with Paul's Conversion Experience. Now, on the little pagan island of Malta, we see Paul as the "Fish Out Of Water" in the manner of the more dramatic aspects of that plot device. Here he is, a prisoner in chains, having just been shipwrecked off the coast. Now remember, Paul started out his journey as an intellectual member of the Religious Elite, and here he is in wet rags, gathering firewood in the rain. THEN he gets bitten by a poisonous snake! The natural thing is to assume he is a murderer on his way to execution, and "the goddess" is speeding things up a bit.

But then something weird happens. Paul is not affected by the snakebite and shakes off the viper into the fire. So, the locals then think he must be a "god".

Unlike the characters in "Heart of Darkness", "Apocalypse Now", or "The Man Who Would Be King", Paul DOES NOT allow this misconception to continue. Instead, his deliverance from the certain death of snakebite gives him an opportunity to do good, by healing and counseling the people of the island. And THAT is where the story changes from what we would expect! They end up spending the whole winter on the island, before it's safe again to sail to Rome.

A few weeks ago, I was introduced to a three-hour movie based upon the Book of Acts. It was very accurate and didn't even need a Screenwriter, as the entire Biblical text was the Script...word for word.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 9

To the leader: according to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

3 When my enemies turned back,
they stumbled and perished before you.
4 For you have maintained my just cause;
you have sat on the throne giving righteous judgement.

5 You have rebuked the nations, you have destroyed the wicked;
you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6 The enemies have vanished in everlasting ruins;
their cities you have rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.

7 But the Lord sits enthroned for ever,
he has established his throne for judgement.
8 He judges the world with righteousness;
he judges the peoples with equity.

9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion.
Declare his deeds among the peoples.
12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

13 Be gracious to me, O Lord.
See what I suffer from those who hate me;
you are the one who lifts me up from the gates of death,
14 so that I may recount all your praises,
and, in the gates of daughter Zion,
rejoice in your deliverance.

15 The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.
16 The Lord has made himself known, he has executed judgement;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands.
Higgaion. Selah

17 The wicked shall depart to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
nor the hope of the poor perish for ever.

19 Rise up, O Lord! Do not let mortals prevail;
let the nations be judged before you.
20 Put them in fear, O Lord;
let the nations know that they are only human.
Selah

Ah yes, the movie The Acts of the Apostles. Chapter 28 starts at 3:01:29
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q5bTIUrUw0M

I love how God took a bad situation and used it for Paul to tell the Good News to the pagan people of Malta. I wonder how many of those shipwrecked with him came to believe, too.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas eve!

Prayer For Christmas Joy

Lord, as we enter the Christmas season, we want to take time to thank You for sending Your Son to be born as a baby and to become our Saviour, so that He can bring peace into the hearts of those that believe, and joy to those that find their hope in Him.

Lord, we know that only in Him is true peace and lasting joy to be found, and as we sing the Christmas carols and choruses this Christmas season, we pray that true joy would come into the world, and that many would find their peace. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
