Praise to the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you and May He bless and keep you for posting these beautiful works of art!
And may He bless you through them!
I remember I was ‘Joseph’ in a Christmas play at church when I was 11 or so.
Best part is I didn’t have any dialog!...........
At least you weren’t the ox or lamb...................
We didn’t have many kids at our church, just enough for Joseph, Mary, 3 wise men and a couple of shepherds which were girls.
I lucked up and got the Joseph part because I was absent the previous Sunday for some reason and when I came back they told me, BTW, you’re Joseph!..............
Excellent! I cannot take my eyes away from the magnificent border at #55, it looks like an embroidery.
#72/75 one can recognize the Edward Burnes-Jones designs.
Thank you, Dan
Well, that’s somewhat fitting. You get shoved into Joseph’s nonspeaking role, which rather parallels his actual role in the real story: hardly the star of the show, filling an essential but not central part......................
Usually used his distinctive-looking daughters as models, further assisting with identification.
It was really cool.
All I had to do was walk down the aisle with ‘Mary’ (who I really did have a crush on at that time, same age as me) and we stepped up onto the podium (pulpit removed) and there was a crude wooden ‘manger there with a doll baby in it, covered by cloths.
I had not been there for ‘rehearsal’ the day before, so all I did was stand there. ‘Mary’ then proceeded to reach into the manger and uncover the ‘baby’.
By this time, the ‘shepherds’ and ‘angels’ were on their way so everybody’s attention was focused on them. I whispered to ‘Mary’, “What are you doing?”
She whispered back, “I’m having a baby you idiot!”.................
Vivid memories..................
24 of the 45 pieces here - that's 53% - the majority!...
...have something in common...

Now, I ask again:
...Was there a meeting, a conclave, a gathering, a symposium - where all these artists agreed to use the same symbols? How do these same symbols appear over, and over, and over again? Despite being separated by years and continents, time and geography, time and space? HOW???
(It's just wonderful!)
Nearly 60 years ago.......................
The answer is so Rudolf-the-Red-Nosed-Reindeer-blindingly-obvious that even you should get it: The artists all painted with The Little Drummer Boy playing in the background:
But a lamb is too small, so....
Did she find someone who would tolerate her mouth?
Last I heard, I moved away from there ( north Mississippi) in ‘68, she was living in North Carolina with a big family of her own............
Hence, a sufficient audience...............
Her dad was the Postmaster of the town and the Head Deacon of the church.................
