Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 22
The Plot to Kill Paul
12 The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. 13 More than forty men were involved in this plot. 14 They went to the chief priests and the elders and said, “We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul. 15 Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”
16 But when the son of Paul’s sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks and told Paul.
17 Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, “Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.” 18 So he took him to the commander.
The centurion said, “Paul, the prisoner, sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.”
19 The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside and asked, “What is it you want to tell me?”
20 He said: “Some Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul before the Sanhedrin tomorrow on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about him. 21 Don’t give in to them, because more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request.”
22 The commander dismissed the young man with this warning: “Don’t tell anyone that you have reported this to me.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified, Sanctified,
and Hallowed Be Your Most Holy and Glorious Name!
You Are So Holy and Worthy of Praise and Worship,
we are Overwhelmed by Your Glory!
Thank You, LORD, For Giving us Your Word.
Teach us, Oh LORD,
To handle Responsibly, and with integrity,
The Wonderful Gifts You Have Given to Us.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Some of you already know the story of my $8.00 NIV Study Bible, but some of you may not, so here goes.
My sister and I love yard Sales. In the Spring and summer, she goes on her local FB page and directs me the driver to various Yard Sales on the South Shore. One of them, which looked particularly promising, was located at an address in Hull, MA, which, if it had been named for its traffic patterns and parking situation, would have been spelled with an "E" instead of a "U". This is because it is a very old town, with the houses close together right up onto the street, on a long, skinny spit of land that goes out into the Atlantic Ocean. Charming and Historic, but not Car-Friendly.
We got to the address, and it was a STORE! Both of us fumed that a store shouldn't be using the Yard Sale App to get free advertising. That was Cheating! I didn't even stop the car, but went all the way to the end of the spit where there was a turnaround.
We saw a sign for a real Yard Sale on the way back, and found a parking space right away. They had some good stuff there, some Vintage Vinyl, tchotskis, and other stuff, and there I saw it...a brand new NIV Study Bible in Bonded Leather (made up of leather scraps bonded together like particle board...not as nice as REAL leather, but still OK), complete with maps, commentary, dictionary, and concordance. It had no price tag on it so I asked.
"Eight Dollars? I don't even know what that is."
I peeled off the cash and have been using that Bible for my daily reading ever since. I have many other translations handy, and, of course, it's always available on the Internet, but one never knows these days how much longer that will be. The little commentaries on each page are very helpful in preparing this thread. One must always remember though, "Commentaries" are not "Scripture", even if they appear on the same page.
Under Today's Reading, there was a commentary about the identity of the 40 miscreants who take a vow together to neither eat nor drink till they have killed Paul. Just who were these guys? The Bible doesn't say, there are clues. Remember when the Soldier thought that Paul was a Terrorist? There actually was a gang of terrorists (also called "Zealots") who were a constant annoyance to the Romans, and to their fellow Jews as well. There is speculation that Judas was a Zealot, and had originally followed Jesus because he thought Jesus was going to lead a revolt against the Romans.
The commentary at the bottom of the page with Today's reading says that these 40 were "probably" Zealots, maybe even from the Revolt mentioned earlier by the Roman Soldier.
Every group has its "Zealots", and they are usually the ones that cause all the trouble. It would seem that, throughout History, the main creed of the Zealot is one that has been attributed to Lenin, Marx, and even Machiavelli, but actually goes all the way back to Ovid. That is:
The end justifies the means.
These Zealots were ready to kill one of their own countryman because he disagreed with them on Theology. Luckily, Paul's nephew got wind of it and was able to warn the governor.
The Book of Acts becomes more intriguing by the minute. Paul may have some very evil enemies, but he also has some loyal friends.
And sometimes those friends were found where you would least expect it.

Good info on Zealots. Thanks. That Bible was meant to be yours!
I’m upset this morning that my old school has students and socialist organizers terrorizing Jews in Syracuse, NY. Syracuse U leadership needs to step up and put a stop to this. More info here:

I’m surprised that Seinfeld is taking University Gigs again. He had stopped for a while because he refused to subscribe to “Political Correctness”.
Wealth, Fame, and Fortune are no guarantees against these mobs.
Thanks for the link.
I’m sorry your Alma Mater is being this way. Mine went “south” in 1972, and I don’t even mention my college years to anyone anymore.

Psalm 66
To the leader. A Song. A Psalm.
1 Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;
2 sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise.
3 Say to God, ‘How awesome are your deeds!
Because of your great power, your enemies cringe before you.
4 All the earth worships you;
they sing praises to you,
sing praises to your name.’
Selah
5 Come and see what God has done:
he is awesome in his deeds among mortals.
6 He turned the sea into dry land;
they passed through the river on foot.
There we rejoiced in him,
7 who rules by his might for ever,
whose eyes keep watch on the nations—
let the rebellious not exalt themselves.
Selah
8 Bless our God, O peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard,
9 who has kept us among the living,
and has not let our feet slip.
10 For you, O God, have tested us;
you have tried us as silver is tried.
11 You brought us into the net;
you laid burdens on our backs;
12 you let people ride over our heads;
we went through fire and through water;
yet you have brought us out to a spacious place.*
13 I will come into your house with burnt-offerings;
I will pay you my vows,
14 those that my lips uttered
and my mouth promised when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer to you burnt-offerings of fatlings,
with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams;
I will make an offering of bulls and goats.
Selah
16 Come and hear, all you who fear God,
and I will tell what he has done for me.
17 I cried aloud to him,
and he was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I had cherished iniquity in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened.
19 But truly God has listened;
he has given heed to the words of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God,
because he has not rejected my prayer
or removed his steadfast love from me.

Seinfeld’s show is out in town at a public theater in Syracuse. The socialists from SU actually went out in town to terrorize the public in attendance. If university leadership doesn’t step up and stop Tara Sandlin and the guilty campus organisations from Jew hatred, then SU is complicit.

Wow...it seems that one can’t do a show ever somewhat NEAR a university.
I’m really glad I’m retired from show biz. I’d much rather teach, go to open-mikes, and FReep.

AMEN, remaining in prayer with all for the Peace of Jerusalem, for the Salvation of all Israel, for the return of those who are still held hostage, for our Nation as we see our leaders beginning to turn away from reality.
