“...For nothing is impossible with God.”.............................
Pretty much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just beautiful.
I agree.
Perfect..perfect...perfect!
Thank you, Dan, for giving us so much beauty.
Favorites are @22, #35 and #36.
My home will be filled with mystical light....(as I without remorse claim ownership to them)
Merriest of Christmases!
I’m a great fan of stained glass. Also a frustrated photographer of it ... it’s almost impossible to capture the luminosity of it on film, much less a digital silicon focal plane array ... In some churches, when the sun is angled just right, the image in a stained glass window will be projected onto the opposite wall.
During a time of frequent business travel, I regularly attended Mass at a church that used the style shown in #24. I like it much better in person than I would have expected to if it was simply described. The high transparency and muted colors actually “work” very well.
During these two weeks, you will have access to roughly 500 windows. Enjoy!
Gabriel always has the best hair!
That's the 'tell' for people to recognize him in person.
Ginger Jewfro. Accept no substitutes.
(If you're going to build an angel into a man, why not do it with some style?)
As Will Smith said in Men in Black, "I make this look gooooood."
Now that is enthusiastic!
And sure enough, Gabriel did a gooooood job!
Here's something that connects ancient symbolism and associations. I wouldn't know the why or how, but I can observe what simply *is*:
Gabriel is God's famous messenger angel.
Hermes/Mercury was the Greek (or Roman equivalent) messenger god (among other things), symbolized by a caduceus.
The caduceus -- two serpents and wings on a pole -- is often confused with and/or used in place of the Rod of Ascelpius healing symbol.
Thus what happened is that the symbol that looks like an angel is the symbol for the speedy messenger and is used for healing. Supposedly misappropriated, yet in verse 2, in the last chapter of the Hebrew Bible according to the Christian book order in its context:
Malachi ("my messenger", "my angel")
Malachi 4Which of course involves Gabriel who got the ball rolling by delivering messages to Zacharias and Mary.1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham...
And there's this odd bit of trivia:
"Modern depiction of the caduceus as the symbol of logistics"
Licensing
Public domain This work has been released into the public domain by its author, Rama. This applies worldwide.
Because,
In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt... (Matthew 2:18-19)
It's as if ~Someone~ is in charge of this here *entire* narrative, having an awful lot of time on His hands, and He's not afraid to use it.
Don't even get me started on the 88 mph transition speed, what with Mercury busy speeding around the Sun in 88 Earth-days.
Logistics? We've got logistics coming out of our ears. What we need is fighting spirit. The will to win.
Where are those aerial photographs?
🤓
You forgot the Brass Serpent of Moses.................
From Wiki:
Mercury... is a major god in Roman religion and mythology, being one of the 12 Dii Consentes within the ancient Roman pantheon. He is the god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence, messages, communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery, and thieves; he also serves as the guide of souls to the underworld and the “messenger of the gods”.
In Roman mythology, he was considered to be either the son of Maia, one of the seven daughters of the Titan Atlas, and Jupiter, or of Caelus and Dies.
In his earliest forms, he appears to have been related to the Etruscan deity Turms; both gods share characteristics with the Greek god Hermes. He is often depicted holding the caduceus in his left hand. Similar to his Greek equivalent Hermes, he was awarded a magic wand by Apollo, which later turned into the caduceus, the staff with intertwined snakes.

You're right. Thanks for adding that.
There's always so much!
I'm now reminded of the 'needle in a haystack' medical clinic billboard I was taken to on google street view, when simply following the IP location of an seemingly out of place 'mobile' edit on a wiki page ("• I am who I am.")
Those IP look-ups can be all over the map with multiple searches, but that particular pin at that time [of first result] hovered over the middle of a small lake named Lawley, and the nearby building of note was a medical clinic. Thus I picked that spot to enter street view, as the road/intersection to the clinic was the closest imagery. The sign at the time showed
the angel of the Lord caduceus overhead leading the way,
of Moses crossing through the Red Sea
being the very name of the time machine (which explains how a mobile user could "edit" while over a lake -- nice touch)
It goes on.. and of course it all rolls around full circle as for the reason that triggered the map adventure, of following the seemingly out of place "• I am who I am." line on that page.
I always find the best stuff. That's why I can well afford to look like I've got a screw permanently loose, or surely must have a bad case of OCD or whatever.
Meanwhile, I am fully aware that there's... not enough popcorn!
Excellent.
Because as long as Will Smith came up in this discussion,
remember "the one dumb kid who got lost on the wrong back road"?

The important link to that historical document video of the conversation is on this related post from yesterday:

"In 1914, the company adapted Mercury by sixteenth-century Flemish sculptor Giambologna for its Mercury Man corporate logo, to emphasize the speed of delivery."

It's a weird little world out there.. 🤣
Not the similarities between the description of the ‘flying creatures’ of Ezekiel’s vision and Mercury.............
