Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 21

On to Jerusalem

21 After we had torn ourselves away from them, we put out to sea and sailed straight to Kos. The next day we went to Rhodes and from there to Patara. 2 We found a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, went on board and set sail. 3 After sighting Cyprus and passing to the south of it, we sailed on to Syria. We landed at Tyre, where our ship was to unload its cargo. 4 We sought out the disciples there and stayed with them seven days. Through the Spirit they urged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. 5 When it was time to leave, we left and continued on our way. All of them, including wives and children, accompanied us out of the city, and there on the beach we knelt to pray. 6 After saying goodbye to each other, we went aboard the ship, and they returned home.

7 We continued our voyage from Tyre and landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and sisters and stayed with them for a day. 8 Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. 9 He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

10 After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11 Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’”

12 When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. 13 Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” 14 When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

15 After this, we started on our way up to Jerusalem. 16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and brought us to the home of Mnason, where we were to stay. He was a man from Cyprus and one of the early disciples.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Blessed Are You, Oh LORD,
Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are Righteous and Just,
And You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe,
How Wonderful Are Your Precepts,
How Precious Is Your WORD,
How Eternal and Sure Are Your Promises!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Today's Reading is very interesting If we are to read it plainly as it says, then we have to conclude that the Gift of Prophecy was not confined to Old Testament Sages, nor was it limited to the original Twelve Apostles, Nor even just to Adult Men. Some very respected and beloved Bible teachers teach that very thing, which is unfortunate, as it disagrees with this Chapter in the Book of Acts. It is possible that, due to the proliferation of false prophets, these otherwise Biblically Sound Scholars have reacted by throwing out ALL prophecy just to be safe.

Agabus was a Prophet that used visual aids and symbols to relay his message. The Prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel were also that type of prophet. God told them to use actions and props to tell the People of the coming siege and destruction of Jerusalem The story in Ezekiel 4, where the Prophet has to eat a strange kind of bread cooked over a dung fire (thus defiled) was a playing out of the coming starvation that would reduce people to eating unclean food, including cannibalism, to survive. It was a hideous lesson, and, of course, it came true in 586BC.

Jeremiah is instructed to prophecy using a belt, to foresee the destruction of Jerusalem in Jeremiah 13. He is instructed to take a beautiful linen sash and bury it in the mud so it becomes ruined and good-for-nothing.

Agabus takes Paul's belt and ties himself up with it. He prophecies that Paul will get arrested, bound, and hurt if he goes to Jerusalem. Naturally, all the Brethren beg Paul not to go. Paul, however, is called to go and bids farewell. His Calling and Agabus's Prophecy are not in conflict, as both are true.

The following story is one I shared some years ago, about a young woman who received a calling that didn't align with her pastor, her church, or even common sense.

My friend Anita felt called to be a missionary. She was, like my friend Lil, a Registered Nurse whose skills would be very welcome in any Third World country. But unlike Lil, who was called to Iron Curtain Countries (remember them?) and later to Islamic Countries where she smuggled Bibles under a Burka, Anita was called to a place a little closer to home, the impoverished Island of Haiti.

Since Anita was very young, very petite, very blonde, and very cute, everybody was against her going to Haiti. They imagined all kinds of horrible things were going to happen to her. Her pastor nearly refused to sponsor her, saying she was going to get herself KILLED or WORSE. Finally, after much prayer, he consented, and off she went.

In the 11 years she spent in Leoganne, Port-Au-Prince, and other parts of Haiti, she survived the collapse of two missions that she worked for, Nine Political Coups, Two Terrorist Guerrilla Raids, Five Hurricanes, Baby Doc, Aristede, The Clinton Embargo, (and a partridge in a pear tree?) and numerous droughts and downpours. She was not there for the big Earthquake but I am sure she would have survived that too. She has since married and has a beautiful daughter, but it could have just as easily gone differently. Indeed, Haiti was a dangerous place, but the ONLY time she felt in danger was the brief vacation she took across the border in the Dominican Republic, and her SUV was stolen, and she was verbally abused and threatened by the Police when she attempted to report the theft. (It is assumed that the police were the ones who stole the SUV in the first place!)

Elder Agabus was not being authoritarian when he prophesied that Paul would be arrested. He was speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and speaking the Truth. Paul WAS in danger. But Paul also had a calling which could not be denied.

We may never know whose lives were touched by Lil, or Anita, or even by this Thread. But God knows, and He keeps much better books than I do.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 136

1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.
2 O give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;

4 who alone does great wonders,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
5 who by understanding made the heavens,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
6 who spread out the earth on the waters,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
7 who made the great lights,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
8 the sun to rule over the day,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
9 the moon and stars to rule over the night,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;

10 who struck Egypt through their firstborn,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
11 and brought Israel out from among them,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
12 with a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
13 who divided the Red Sea* in two,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
14 and made Israel pass through the midst of it,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea,*
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
16 who led his people through the wilderness,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
17 who struck down great kings,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
18 and killed famous kings,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
19 Sihon, king of the Amorites,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
20 and Og, king of Bashan,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
21 and gave their land as a heritage,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
22 a heritage to his servant Israel,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.

23 It is he who remembered us in our low estate,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
24 and rescued us from our foes,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
25 who gives food to all flesh,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.

26 O give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures for ever.

Prayers of blessing, protection and effectiveness for all of God’s missionaries in the field in Jesus’ Name.

We have dealt with false prophets in the past. I’ve seen quite a few in certainly types of churches, to the point were the Holy Spirit directed us away from them. One was actually practicing a form of witchcraft through the laying of hands. She was formerly a fortune-teller and continued under the guise of Christianity.

What does the Bible say about false prophets?

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

I see the text you were referring to, the gift of prophesy:

8 Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. 9 He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

I’ve heard a pastor, who believed the Bible forbade women to have any authority, that the daughters were like Sunday School teachers. Hence, the girls were minimized.
