Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 17
In Thessalonica
17 When Paul and his companions had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2 As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,” he said. 4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.
5 But other Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason’s house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.[a] 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: “These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, 7 and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus.” 8 When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. 9 Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Heavenly Father,
How Precious,
How Wonderful,
How Lovely To Be in Your Presence!
Your Name is So Hallowed,
So Holy and Pure,
and Your Lovingkindness is From Everlasting to Everlasting!
Why Do You Love Us So,
When We Persist in Turning Away From You?
Your Love is Unsearchable,
Your Mercy Unexplainable,
Your Peace Passes Understanding!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

After sitting for five hours on a hard courtyard bench, and being dismissed from five juries, I was elated to hear that I was being allowed to go home. It was just 2:00PM, and I had the whole beautiful Spring Day ahead of me. Faced with the loathsome prospect of spending that free time on the subway and a stinky public bus, I decided to WALK home. From Government Center in Boston to the Hyde-Park/Milton line was a mere twelve miles. It was fine weather, and, thanks to Frederick Law Olmsted, I could walk through grassy parkways for seven of them. From Boston Common to the "End of The Trolley Line" at Forest Hills there is a series of "Parkways", laid out end-to-end like a string of pearls. In fact, it has been dubbed "The Emerald Necklace".
I walked and walked, and was loving it, until I got to Forest Hills. Then, the prospect of another two miles on busy, urban, and not-so-nice Hyde Park Avenue was a bit daunting. So I hopped on the bus and finished my journey, and proudly filed my story in my memory, as I felt it would be useful someday. (this was in the early 1980's).
While artistic depictions of Paul's conversion show him falling off a horse, there is no indication in Scripture that Paul was riding one. It just says that he was "knocked to the ground". It is more likely that he was walking, but horses are fun and dramatic to paint. It's hard for us to imagine walking from Jerusalem to Damascus, or trooping around Greece and Modern-Day Turkey, but that's what people did back then. With Roman Roads criss-crossing the Empire, one could easily walk 30 miles a day, and there were many cities along the way, with inns, caravansaries, and food vendors for the weary traveler. The towns mentioned in this chapter were all situated on the Via Egnatia, a Roman Road that connected the Eastern and Western parts of the Empire. While it may not have been as nice as The Emerald Neclace, it was reliable, well marked, and well-maintained. In fact, in Neapolis, Philippi, and Apollonia, there are still visable remants of the Roman Road. Paul had the Greek Language, Roman Roads, and The Truth of the Gospel. God had "paved the way" for him well in advance of his journey.
The mob in Thessaloniki reminds me of the current left-wing mobs who harass people in restaurants, camp out in front of people's homes, and break character in a Broadway play to verbally abuse a member of the audience. Jason merely provided hospitality to Paul, and the mob assaults him, accuses him, and drags him before the authorities. It says here that he also had to post bond to get out of jail. All because there is a disagreement in religion, politics, or behavior.
Times don't change much, do they?

It’s always amazing to see maps from those times and realize how far Jesus and the apostles traveled back then. And then to see how their testimonies have gone completely around the world.

St. Paul would have benefited greatly if he had a Harley to ride around....In fact, I would LOVE to ride the route on a Harley, with adequate stops for rest and refreshment of course!
Without the Roman Roads, which God allowed to be so conveniently placed all around the Mediterranean, It would have taken a LOT longer, I’ll bet.

Psalm 52
To the leader. A Maskil of David, when Doeg the Edomite came to Saul and said to him, ‘David has come to the house of Ahimelech.’
1 Why do you boast, O mighty one,
of mischief done against the godly?*
All day long 2you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor,
you worker of treachery.
3 You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking the truth.
Selah
4 You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.
5 But God will break you down for ever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
Selah
6 The righteous will see, and fear,
and will laugh at the evildoer,* saying,
7 ‘See the one who would not take
refuge in God,
but trusted in abundant riches,
and sought refuge in wealth!’*
8 But I am like a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
for ever and ever.
9 I will thank you for ever,
because of what you have done.
In the presence of the faithful
I will proclaim* your name, for it is good.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
First century God paved the spread of the Gospel with universal Greek language and Roman roads with relative peace.
Twenty-first century, the internet and wide spread access even in the remotest regions of the earth.
