Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 16
Lydia’s Conversion in Philippi
11 From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day we went on to Neapolis. 12 From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district[a] of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.
13 On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. 14 One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. 15 When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
Hallowed Be Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The Most High!
You Alone Are The One True God!
Keep our Eyes From Worthless Things,
And Our hearts from Worshiping the Work of Our Hands.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL. MAY YOU HAVE A BLESSED DAY.
The following bit of dialogue is from my Mom's favorite move The Russians Are Coming.
Rosanov: : We are two strangers in this island,
and we wish to speak with you about boats.
Whittiker: Boats?
- About boats?
Rosanov: - Yes, that is most exactly correct.
Boats.
Whittiker: I don't understand. I mean, who are you?
- I didn't hear a car. How did you...
Rosanov: - Please, not to be afraid. We are nobody.
We wish only to inquire where to find powerboat.
Motor-powerboat for private use for some brief little time, you understand?
Whittiker: Sorry, but I still don't understand.
There are no boats around here.
Rosanov: - No boats?
Whittiker: - No.
Rosanov: This is an island with no boats?
For years that line about the island with no boats became a catchphrase in our family. We used it to describe Cape Cod and the Islands in the Winter, when nobody wanted to be there, or anywhere else that seemed like the end of the world. "An Island With No Boats" also could be used to express a state of mind, of being isolated, alone, and discouraged. Who knew that a Cold-War Comedy Movie could convey such a thing?
Paul's Journeys to him to many Islands, Seaports, and Coastal Towns, as well as some forays inland. The Mediterranean has many Islands, and some of them are enormous, like Crete and Cyprus. Paul visited many of them, and spent a LOT of time on boats. Philippi was not an island, but had a river, and that's where devout people went to pray. Evidently there was no Synagogue in the Town, which was a distinct Roman Colony, with a Roman form of Government, Religion, and Culture. In a way, the Jews of Philippi were on an "Island With No Boats".
Paul had an idea that these "boatless" People would want to be near fresh, running, water to meet with each other to pray. So that is where he went.
In Art Class we learned about the Color Wheel, which showed us how to mix colors to get new ones. The Primary Colors were Red, Yellow, and Blue, and those would be mixed to form Orange, Green, and Purple. However, only two primary colors were used to get the secondary colors. If you put all three together, you would get mud. And yet, if one was dealing with colored light rather than pigments, the three colors mixed together was a pure white light. This phenomenon always fascinated me as an art student, and my favorite color was the one where red and blue joined together to make purple. This worked for both pigments and light and so my bedroom was a kaleidoscope of purple, lavender, mauve, and violet.
Until the end of the 19th Century, the Color Purple was hard to come by. Because the natural products that yielded this color were hard to come by, Purple was reserved for Royalty, The very wealthy, or for special occasions such as a funeral. When artificial dyes were invented in the 1890's, purple became so popular that it became known as "The Mauve Decade".
Lydia was a dealer in Purple Cloth. Her business must have been very lucrative, and she seems to have been a wealthy and independent woman. And yet, she responds to Paul's message with grace and hospitality. Soon there is a thriving church in Lydia's home, and, from what clues we can gather from Paul's Letter to them (Philippians) they were filled with a Heart of Thanksgiving and Joy.
That would be analogous to a having a POWERBOAT!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 67
To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us,
Selah
2 that your way may be known upon earth,
your saving power among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.
4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth.
Selah
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.
6 The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, has blessed us.
7 May God continue to bless us;
let all the ends of the earth revere him.

My question about Gilligan’s Island:
If the professor was so smart that he could make a TV out of coconuts, why couldn’t he just FIX the USS Minnow?

I think the castaways must have been in Purgatory. Every one else in the world could visit, but they couldn’t leave.

Thank you for this today. I’ve admired Lydia as a godly model especially for women. Plus purple is one of my favorite colors. Happy Thanksgiving. My dad passed away this morning and is home with Jesus right now!
