Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 15

The Council’s Letter to Gentile Believers

22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

Greetings.

24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

Farewell.

30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] [d] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our God and Heavenly Father,
How Holy is Your Name!
Thank You For Giving Us Hope,
Perseverance, Stamina, and Determination,
When it seems that everything and everyone is working against us.
And Please Forgive Us For being querulous,
When we are so VERY Blessed.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Not too long ago, people communicated with Letters. Proper Letter-Writing was taught in School, and my Mom was a Champion. She knew all the rules and was able to compose a perfect Business Letter, with all the Grammatical Rules, Spacings, Salutations, Margins, Attachments and everything else that made a Perfect letter. Then she would type the letter with three carbons, so that a perfect copy was made to keep for reference. One time, she opened a can of food and it was rotten inside. She dashed off a Letter of Complaint that was so erudite and full of outrage, that the company sent us a crate of fresh products of all their varieties.

Since Dad was a Professional Photographer, we were among the first people I ever knew who had personalized Christmas Cards. A (sometimes corny!) pose of the six kids and a cheery Letter From Mom was sent out to hundreds of people on the "List". If Mom didn't get a Christmas card in return, the name would be scratched off the list. Believe me, she kept track!

Some of us had Pen Pals when we were in Grade School. We wrote and received Letters from all over the world. It was because of a Letter that I watched the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in their First American Performance on Feb 9, 1964. Writing, Sending, and receiving Letters was a very important part of my life. Although a telephone Call was nice, a Letter was Better.

Today, with Online Communications, Letters are very rare. People don't even send Invitations anymore. I almost missed an important event because the Invitations were sent out via Facebook, and I am NOT a member. I have lost touch with a lot of people because of that. "Going Paperless" is not all that it is cracked up to be.

Over half of the entire New Testament is in the form of Letters. Paul, Peter, James, John, and Jude have all contributed. Here we see a very important Letter going out to Gentile Believers, from the First Council of the Apostles in Jerusalem.

It addresses an early controversy in the Church.

Just a few months ago, I heard that some old friends from my first church (40 years ago) had joined up with a sect that believes in Jesus, but demands that the adherents obey the Law of Moses, right down to the practice of Circumcision. They wear special clothing, force their kids to work in craft factories, and eat their version of "Kosher".

Maybe I need to send them a "Letter". No...wait...The Council in Jerusalem already DID!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen. I also pray for that congregation that they would be free from a religious spirit and that God would shine His Light and Truth into the eyes of their understanding

Amen. My own personal opinion is that people these days are so desperate for structure and stability that they impose strict laws to live by in order to feel that they are a part of something safe and secure. They can find that comfort and security in God's Word, but that takes a little initiative. It is much easier to live by rules and regulations that have been imposed on them by others.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Apostle Paul"
El Greco ~ 1611

_HEN pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men
among the brethren:
And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.

Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Psalm 15

A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, who may abide in your tent?
Who may dwell on your holy hill?

2 Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right,
and speak the truth from their heart;
3 who do not slander with their tongue,
and do no evil to their friends,
nor take up a reproach against their neighbours;
4 in whose eyes the wicked are despised,
but who honour those who fear the Lord;
who stand by their oath even to their hurt;
5 who do not lend money at interest,
and do not take a bribe against the innocent.

Those who do these things shall never be moved.
