But “our side” does not adamantly promote ‘divorce & sex outside of marriage & pornography & gossip & lust & greed & laziness.’
(aside, can you give any Biblical justification for ‘levels of sin’?)
If anyone sees a fellow-Christian committing a sin which is not a deadly sin, he should intercede for him...Although all wrongdoing is sin not all sin is deadly sin. (1 John 5:16-17)
I must add that it seems crazy to me to need a Biblical justification to admit a distinction between horrendous, gruesome crimes and others that are less extreme. In 1983 in Illinois a mother and her three children were found dead in their beds where someone had used a long-handled axe to bludgeon them to death by swinging the blade into each of their heads from 10-15 times for each one of them. I cannot imagine that God views that on par with passing a bad check.
None that I could cite specifically. It just seemed correct to me that a sin like child molestation or premeditated murder were more vile than, say, telling a lie about your age or saying a foul word. I think I was unknowingly assuming that God’s judgements would mirror our human instinct to assume certain crimes & sins are worse than others. I would even venture to say that an overwhelming majority of devout, conservative Christians regard certain sins worse than others. I think it’s just human instinct. Even the inmate population- in prison for a multitude of sins- regard child molestation as beyond the pale. There are certain t hints I can’t imagine forgiveness for. But, I am not God!
