Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 9
Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem
Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” 22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
23 After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him, 24 but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.
26 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. 28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,[a] but they tried to kill him. 30 When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
31 Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God
How Excellent is Your Holy Name
What a Joy it is,
To Lift Up Your Holy Name in Worship,
For You Alone are Worthy of Praise.
For You are Holy, Righteous and Just,
And Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.
Perfect in All Your Ways
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
And Lord of Lords!
Your Ways are so above our ways,
And Your Plan is Perfect,
Even when when don't understand it fully at the time.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

When a major change takes place in somebody's life, it is sometimes unbelievable. We remember all the bad things a person did, and find it difficult to accept that there has been a genuine change in the person. There are, however a lot of fakers and phonies who plague the Church, leading people astray. That is why we need to have discernment and wisdom.
Last night, my Sis and I went to an Open Mike. While we were sitting enjoying our dinner, a man who was wearing entirely TOO MUCH Biker Regalia stepped through the door with a guitar. He gravitated over to me, attracted by my well-worn leather jacket, and started bragging about the outlaw club he rode with. Since I am well-aquainted with the club, I started asking if he knew Andy C, or C King, or other prominent members. He immediately changed the subject about having been in Vietnam in 1975. (Just prior to that, he had mentioned his age, which would have made him about 15 when he was in Nam, LOL). I brought up Rolling Thunder, and he was clueless. OK...so I thought that I would change the direction of the conversation by mentioning my Motorcycle Ministry. Perhaps even this phoney could be redeemed. He countered that with saying that he was a Catholic Priest (I am NOT making this up!). Then I asked him what he rode. His answer was nonspecific. "A 50 year old Shovelhead." That was pretty nebulous, as most bikers would not only know the year, but the model designation of their Harley. (For example, I ride a 93FXR Superglide that was born in June 1992 in the York PA Factory)
I was rescued by the Evening's Emcee, Jon, who asked me to go up and play a set on guitar. The phoney said, "I have to go on early. I have a REAL gig tonight." Jon and I both deferred, saying he could go up first, but he declined, so I went up. As I picked up my guitar, the phoney went outside to smoke something. At the very end of my set, which he did NOT watch, he picked up his harmonica, took my sister's mike away from her, and started jamming with me. Sis just shrugged her shoulders and continued playing the Conga Drum. And we finished the set that way.
When I sat down, Jon again approached the phoney and suggested he go up, but he once again declined, and several others went up and did their sets. The phoney kept getting up and going outside, not giving anybody the courtesy or respect of listening to them.
Jon ran through the list and asked me to go up a second time, this time on Piano. Once again, the phoney walked out on me.
On Piano, I did three songs, Desperado, Because the Night, and Riders of the Storm. All three are serious Piano Songs, especially the last one. When I sat down after my set, another man in a leather jacket came over to compliment me on my performance. He had a club pin that I recognized, and I asked him what he rode. "An 03 Road King" was his reply. I knew exactly what he meant by that. He shared with me how he loved to ride in West Virginia. I did too and we reminisced about the beautiful Rt 55 through Seneca Rock, Smoke Hole Caverns, the Monongahela State Forest, and Blackwater Falls. This guy was NOT a phoney.
Finally, the phoney biker went up to do his set. He had a 12-String. I remarked that it was a nice guitar. "I HAVE 50 OF THEM!" was his reply. Then his guitar didn't work. I suggested he change the battery (a 9 Volt) and offered him one from my guitar case. "I have plenty of them! I DO THIS FOR A LIVING, YOU KNOW!" he said.
"So Do I." my sister and I said, in unison.
Battery installed, Mr. Phoney-Biker-Catholic-Priest-15-Year-Old-Vietnem-Vet-Who-Didn't-Know-What-Rolling-Thunder-Was" launched into "Riders of the Storm", right after I had finished playing it on Piano. If he had been there for my set, he would have realized that everybody had just heard that song, played correctly, on the Piano as written. What a DOOFUS!
I can imagine that the Early Christians were a bit cautious of Saul. The whole purpose of his trip to Damascus had been to KILL them, after all. Now he was saying he was a Believer. Was he attempting to infiltrate, to spy on them? If so, it was a dangerous game he was playing. However, Saul did more than just spew the lingo. He began to put his own life on the line. It was only after he showed his commitment that people trusted him. Then, when Saul's life was in danger, they put their own on the line for him, lowering him over the city wall in a basket to abet his escape from the authorities.
Phonies only last until being a Christian becomes uncomfortable. When it is no longer fashionable or lucrative, they fall away. Hopefully, they are recognized by discerning believers before they do too much damage. May we all be given Discernment and Wisdom to recognize who is "for real" among us.

While it is good to have Wisdom and Discernment, Phonies usually end up outing themselves.

Psalm 49
To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.
1 Hear this, all you peoples;
give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
2 both low and high,
rich and poor together.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom;
the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
4 I will incline my ear to a proverb;
I will solve my riddle to the music of the harp.
5 Why should I fear in times of trouble,
when the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,
6 those who trust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?
7 Truly, no ransom avails for one’s life,*
there is no price one can give to God for it.
8 For the ransom of life is costly,
and can never suffice,
9 that one should live on for ever
and never see the grave.*
10 When we look at the wise, they die;
fool and dolt perish together
and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves* are their homes for ever,
their dwelling-places to all generations,
though they named lands their own.
12 Mortals cannot abide in their pomp;
they are like the animals that perish.
13 Such is the fate of the foolhardy,
the end of those* who are pleased with their lot.
Selah
14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
Death shall be their shepherd;
straight to the grave they descend,*
and their form shall waste away;
Sheol shall be their home.*
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me.
Selah
16 Do not be afraid when some become rich,
when the wealth of their houses increases.
17 For when they die they will carry nothing away;
their wealth will not go down after them.
18 Though in their lifetime they count themselves happy
—for you are praised when you do well for yourself—
19 they* will go to the company of their ancestors,
who will never again see the light.
20 Mortals cannot abide in their pomp;
they are like the animals that perish.

Prayers lifted for all the phonies who are so confused on their own true identities they go around boasting, rudely, provocatively and manipulativly to draw attention to themselves. May God heal them and fill the holes in their hearts with His Holy Spirit. Bless them with consequences so they may become aware of sin and call upon our Savior and King for repentance and salvation, just as Saul of Tarsus did.
Prayer For Those That Are Lost And Without Hope
Loving Lord and Heavenly Father, I know that it is not Your will that anyone should perish, but that all should come to faith in Jesus Christ. But Lord, there are so many that are dead in their trespasses and sins, separated from You Lord, because they have not trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as their one and only sacrifice for sin. Look down in pity on all those who have not come to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus.
Lord, I pray that Your Holy Spirit would convict many men and women of their sin, and their need to trust the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. Open many hearts we pray, to accept that only the blood of the sinless Lord Jesus is good enough to pray the price of humanities sins.
Help them to understand that only the righteous Son of God and the perfect Son of Man, the Lord Jesus Christ, was good enough to pay the high price required for the redemption of the world. That only His blood was could wipe away the guilt of us all.
Be merciful Lord, and bring many who are unbelieving into a right relationship with Jesus, so that they too may receive the joy of Your Salvation. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

If all you have to contribute is a call to prayer, your discipline deserves to die.
It’s sort alike refusing medical aid to someone: “Gawd will save”. BS! YOU are Gawd’s tool on earth.

God bless you bobbo. Jesus loves you so much He willingly sacrificed His own life for our sins.
