Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

John 18

Jesus Arrested

18 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it.

2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?”

5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.

“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?”

“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.

8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”[a]

10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)

11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”

12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him 13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh God of My Life!
How Precious Is Your Love,
Which You Pour Out To Us Day By Day!
How Sweet is Your Song,
With Which You Sing Me To Sleep!
How Glorious Is Your Word,
Which Gives Me Prayer in The Night!
You Alone Are The God Of My Life,
You Alone are the One True God Over All!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

In 1977, my husband prevailed upon me to stand two hours in the rain to get into the Charles Cinema (right next door to Mass General Hospital) in Boston. There was a movie he wanted to see that held no interest for me, but I was being a good wifey and I am so glad I did. It was the Boston Premier of "Star Wars: A New Hope". After a decade of dark, unhappy movies starring mentally unbalanced antiheroes, it was wonderful to see a movie with heroism and clear lines between Good and Evil. When VHS became popular, we instantly bought the Trilogy and watched them over and over. We had them memorized. Then the movies came out in DVD, and we purchased those for a better viewing experience. Other movies came out, but, in my humble opinion, were not as good as the first three. WE kept buying upgrades and remasters of "4-6" as they became available. Then something weird happened. Along with digitizing and remastering, the PLOT had been changed. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about it:

"Han shot first" refers to a controversial change made to a scene in the film Star Wars (1977),[a] in which Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is confronted by the bounty hunter Greedo (Paul Blake/Maria De Aragon) in the Mos Eisley cantina. In the original version of this scene, Han shoots Greedo dead. Later versions are edited so that Greedo attempts to fire at Han first. Director George Lucas altered the scene to give Solo more justification for acting in self-defense. Many fans and commentators oppose the change, feeling it weakens Solo's character arc. The controversy is referenced in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Han Shot First.

Of course, Steven Spielberg has a right to alter his own creation. After all, Leonardo schlepped a painting of a merchant's daughter all around Europe touching it up and changing it, and now is called the Mona Lisa (One assumes the merchant never got his picture!). But it made me sad, as I considered the Original to be the best version. But what is OK in Art is NOT OK when it comes to Scripture. Peter really DID "shoot first". Poor Malchus was just a servant, a nobody. And...it showed that Peter STILL didn't understand that Jesus had to "Drink From The Cup" in order for us to be saved.

Humans, when faced with arrest, will often say strange, foolish things that range from "You've got the wrong guy!", or "I didn't do nuthin'!" or even, "It wasn't ME!" It is because of the damage that such outbursts can cause that our system of justice includes "The Right To Remain Silent". Most of us know the Miranda Warning by heart just from watching "Dragnet" or "Law and Order" on TV. And yet, there are still lawyers who will argue for their clients that the Miranda Warning wasn't pronounced loud enough, or in the correct dialect, for the accused to understand. Thus, incriminating statements and confessions get thrown out on technicalities.

The flip side of this occurs when the rights of the accused are discarded for political or ideological reasons. We have all endured several years of excruciating turmoil based upon this very thing. The whole process has made me very angry and upset and has messed with my sleep patterns and attitude. But...it has also caused me to PRAY a lot more!

When Jesus was arrested in the Garden, he made no denials. He came right out and said "I Am The One You Are Looking For." In John's Gospel, we see that these words are enough to stun the crowd momentarily, like a Force Field of Truth. Peter's feeble attempts at defending Jesus result only in some poor servant named Malchus getting his ear cut off (which Jesus restores right in front of everybody!). Jesus is not guilty of anything, but He doesn't resist arrest. He knows what is coming next, and it is all part of the Plan.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 104

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul.
O Lord my God, you are very great.
You are clothed with honour and majesty,
2 wrapped in light as with a garment.
You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
3 you set the beams of your* chambers on the waters,
you make the clouds your* chariot,
you ride on the wings of the wind,
4 you make the winds your* messengers,
fire and flame your* ministers.

5 You set the earth on its foundations,
so that it shall never be shaken.
6 You cover it with the deep as with a garment;
the waters stood above the mountains.
7 At your rebuke they flee;
at the sound of your thunder they take to flight.
8 They rose up to the mountains, ran down to the valleys
to the place that you appointed for them.
9 You set a boundary that they may not pass,
so that they might not again cover the earth.

10 You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
they flow between the hills,
11 giving drink to every wild animal;
the wild asses quench their thirst.
12 By the streams* the birds of the air have their habitation;
they sing among the branches.
13 From your lofty abode you water the mountains;
the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.

14 You cause the grass to grow for the cattle,
and plants for people to use,*
to bring forth food from the earth,
15 and wine to gladden the human heart,
oil to make the face shine,
and bread to strengthen the human heart.
16 The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 In them the birds build their nests;
the stork has its home in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for the wild goats;
the rocks are a refuge for the coneys.
19 You have made the moon to mark the seasons;
the sun knows its time for setting.
20 You make darkness, and it is night,
when all the animals of the forest come creeping out.
21 The young lions roar for their prey,
seeking their food from God.
22 When the sun rises, they withdraw
and lie down in their dens.
23 People go out to their work
and to their labour until the evening.

24 O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
creeping things innumerable are there,
living things both small and great.
26 There go the ships,
and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.

27 These all look to you
to give them their food in due season;
28 when you give to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die
and return to their dust.
30 When you send forth your spirit,* they are created;
and you renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord endure for ever;
may the Lord rejoice in his works—
32 who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
and let the wicked be no more.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Praise the Lord!
