The boy had been incorrectly described in some news reports as the first unborn child to be beatified, a key detail that the Vatican recently clarified. The Nazi occupation in Poland was more harsh than in “Germanic” nations to the West. They made an example out of people like this so others wouldn’t hide the Jews, but many still did to the credit of the Polish nation.

In March during a trip to Poland I visited a small Warsaw photo museum dedicated to those who hid Jews. Many such stories.
