As we move down the line in our “Itching Ears Cafeteria,” we choose to conveniently pass by those verses near the end of Revelation that warn us to “not add to or take away from...”

We will also conveniently bypass those which speak of false prophets, false gospels, empty gospels.

And because it’s in such small print, it’s too hard to read, “Seeing they do not perceive; and hearing, they do not understand.” To eager students, otherwise known as disciples, that verse, shouts, “LOOK and HEAR.”

Oh! Well! It’s Okay. We all worship the same God. /sarc

I would have full confidence in the Apostolic Church.
The others, not so much.

Y’all still aren’t addressing the points in the article.

Same old slanders cut and pasted.

Says a lot about those posting them.

At the end of the day, I fear the Roman church has painted itself into a corner. It lives and dies by the pope, and as soon as a pope declares infallibly that gay marriage is ordained by God, then Ebb Tide and others have no defense against heresy. That day will come, most assuredly. However, the Bible stands as an eternal bulwark of truth, and it will always offer a truly unchanging standard.

And Mary. Take Mary out of their religion and there's almost nothing left.

And, of course, “Be ye DOERS of the word and not hearers only.”

“If you love me, you will KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.”

Our “Itching Ears Cafeteria” is out of those items, mostly.

“Collective Salvation” is exactly correct.

All (Insert Name of a Denomination) will go to heaven.
I am a (sort of) member of (Insert Name of a Denomination.)
Therefore, I will go to heaven.

“You have to tend the plant...”
Like you say either do the works or go to Hell.
And since sinners who continue to sin cannot go to Heaven according to you, the only logical conclusion is that the Bible’s claim that everlasting life is a free gift is mere sophistry, but the works requirement is real. Of course, sola scriptura would have to be false to you, because there is no way that the simple reading could be true.
You are confirming my contention about your position. Do the works or go to Hell, just be careful to call doing those works “tending to your faith so that it doesn’t die.”

“If you once said the prayer...”
This part of your comment is laden with your presuppositions. I can understand that you may not ever be able to understand my position, although it is entirely possible that you are being disingenuous which if I may be honest is what I suspect of you. You simply do not believe that I ever spoke to the real person, God, about anything real, or that He gave me any kind of a real answer in the Book. You cannot come between us, me and God, to cause me to think that He meant other than what He plainly said. The Bible to you may only be as a statue of Mary or a Rosary, or the vestments of your priest. It does not need to be for you, what I know it actually is, the word of an honest person.

I think you could just go ahead and admit you think Romans 3:28 and James 2:24 are in direct contradiction and you have resolved or rationalized that contradiction by making “salvation by faith” academic and “salvation by works” real. On this we can never find common ground so I will leave you and let you have the last word.

Thank you by the way for the decent way you have handled this with me, though I really do not mind folk getting angry or emotional, as very important, how you handle it neither strengthens nor weakens a position’s logic or truth, and I am beyond getting my feelings hurt.

FReegards!

Want it for others.

So does Lucifer. No thanks.

*********

Ok, ebb…this is very unsettling. What I want for others is the love and freedom of having Jesus Christ as his/her personal savior. YOU say you don’t..because that’s what lucifer wants?

No. Repent. What lucifer wants is for people to take their eyes OFF Jesus…even for a moment…and he is very happy to watch people focus on/pray to Mary or other dead people. Anything to get them away from Jesus.

So, if The Bible is not sufficient, then what do we have to add to it?

Or, what do we have to change and correct in it?

As bad as that is, add to that the number of religions that teach The Sacrifice at Calvery is not enough. “we” need to add...(whatever their recipe is to placate their false doctrine)

In a nutshell, that's pretty much the theme of every one of these threads. For decades now.
It's always the same dialogue. Always.

And I ask myself, "What is the point? The hardcore RCC adherents never seem to be persuaded by Biblical Truth."

My hope is that there are other people (hopefully some "regular" Catholics) who are searching for truth and find in in the persuasive points that are made by so many born-again believers who "dialogue" with those intransigents.

Personally, I commend those who continue to try (n.b.). I admit: I've quit trying with the "hardcore intransigents" and have mostly turned to (my kind of) humor. I don't continue to cast pearls when talking to pigs.

However, bring me someone who is seeking the truth and I am on it.

There are many who read these threads but don't participate. Similar to Sundays when churches are having services...many ride by...some stop...some hear the message and respond.

However, based on the behavior of some of the RCs on this particular thread I'd ask...why would anyone want to join that denomination??

Catholics rail on Christians all the time for the *sin of presumption*.

What I find interesting is the amount of presumption that it takes to sit in judgment of God breathed, Holy Spirit inspired Scripture and find it wanting. And then decide that man can improve on it, like Catholicism dares to do.

What chutzpah!!!!

I get where your coming from and agree.

Years ago my Pastor told me unless they are Born Again most will not adhere to Scripture.

However, if they are Born Again yet not having a knowledgeable grasp of understanding sound doctrine, then those are the ones who are usually intelligent enough to listen.

I think there is an element of truth to that.

Revelation 18:4
King James Version

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

(before it’s too late)

Y'all still aren't addressing the points in the article. Same old slanders cut and pasted. Says a lot about those posting them.

Though daniel1212 has addressed those.

That you make this false charge says a lot about you.

THREE

Was it a teaching or a Bible-reading Church that Christ founded?

It was both IF one reads the Scripture in context.

The Protestant Bible expressly states that Christ founded a teaching Church, which existed before any of the New Testament books were written.

. Rom. 10-17: So then faith cometh by HEARING, and hearing by the word of God.

Matt. 28-19: Go ye therefore and TEACH all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Mark. 16-20: And they went forth, and PREACHED everywhere the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Mark 16-15: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and PREACH the gospel to every creature.

COMMENT: Thus falls the entire basis of the "Bible-only" theory.

Again, IF one reads the Bible in context one will find appeals to the written word of the Old Testament in the New Testament.

When Paul was on his trips starting churches and revisiting them one finds he went to their synaogues and read from...wait for it...the Scriptures.

Is there preaching and teaching today? You betcha. And what are Christian churches teaching and preaching from? The Bible.

Why?

It is what was left to us.

If we are to rely upon the Roman Catholic claim to tradition they will have to address this:

*****

“We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the Gospel has come down to us, which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith… Matthew also issued a written Gospel among the Hebrews in their own dialect, while Peter and Paul were preaching at Rome, and laying the foundations of the Church. After their departure, Mark, the disciple and interpreter of Peter, did also hand down to us in writing what had been preached by Peter. Luke also, the companion of Paul, recorded in a book the Gospel preached by him. Afterwards, John, the disciple of the Lord, who also had leaned upon His breast, did himself publish a Gospel during his residence at Ephesus in Asia.

. Irenæus against Heresies. 3.1.1In A. Roberts, J. Donaldson, & A. C. Coxe (Eds.), The Apostolic Fathers with Justin Martyr and Irenaeus (Vol. 1, p. 414). Christian Literature Company., Logos Bible Software.

*****

If we are to believe Roman Catholicism one has to believe wearing a man-made piece of cloth can keep you out of the hell-fire. That's what so called "tradition" without examining the teaching through the lense of Scripture gets you. False. Teaching.
