Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

John 12
Jesus Predicts His Death
20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.
23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
27 “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!”
Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
30 Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up[g] from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
34 The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”
35 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. 36 Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

When I lived in Florida, I had a tiny back yard surrounded by a high fence. Every time I ate a piece of fruit, I would put the seed in the ground. Soon I had a bunch of little trees, with avocados, mangoes, papayas, and other fruits popping up against the fence. The mango tree became really large and I had more mangoes than I could count. People from the Caribbean like to eat mangoes while they are still green, with salt and vinegar, like a salad, and soon, there were people knocking on my door asking for mangoes. Not only did I say they they could have all they wanted, but also gave them a couple of little trees in pots that I had started. Soon they would have twenty-foot trees of their own, and more mangoes than they could possibly eat.
The seed of the mango was big and fibrous, and when planted, seemed to just rot. But I knew that that was part of the process, and that another tree was on the way.
A few years ago, it was the "Summer of the Cucumber" for Southeastern Massachusetts. Everyone who started a little garden in their yard ended up with more cukes than they knew what to do with. My younger sister started a little garden (less than 10 feet square) and got one eggplant, three tomatoes, one pepper, and hundreds of cucumbers. She pickled them, canned them, gave them away, searched online for cucumber recipes, made Tzatziki Sauce, Thai Cucumber Relish, Hungarian Cucumber Paprikash, and Cucumber Salad, all of which were Delicious. Riding the lovely back roads of the South Shore on my Harley, I observed hundreds of makeshift roadside stands, unattended, offering free cucumbers to motorists. It was a crazy year!
Although the humble cucumber is hardly a metaphor for the Blessings of the Lord, the process of growing things illustrates the Eternal Truth that in order for a seed to reproduce, it needs to die and be transformed. When Jesus says "I will be lifted up" He used a word that could mean either "Exalted" or an actual PHYSICAL lifting up, as on a gallows or a cross, which was the method of execution of that time. Even when speaking of his Own Death, He spoke in layers of meaning. His Death and Resurrection, so appropriately compared to a seed going into the ground, would produce so much fruit that it could not be counted.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

34 The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”
Father, this idiom for crucifixion (lifted up) was used by the Lord in an earlier conversation with Nicodemus. He used it to establish that the brazen serpent was a type and foreshadowing of His own death, being raised up on the Roman cross.. It further establishes that it is via a metaphorical look or simple faith which will bring about regeneration, our new birth.
Father, in Christ's name, we thank You for giving us Your only begotten son and making salvation so accessible to us. In the dialogue above quoted, we see the Lord holding His ground, fully aware of His impending death, a moral courage so very absent today.
Psalm 69:4
Those who hate me without cause
are more than the hairs on my head,
They are mighty who would destroy me,
being my enemies wrongfully;
Though I have stolen nothing,
I still must restore it.

Psalm 80
To the leader: on Lilies, a Covenant. Of Asaph. A Psalm.
1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock!
You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth
2 before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh.
Stir up your might,
and come to save us!
3 Restore us, O God;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.
4 O Lord God of hosts,
how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears,
and given them tears to drink in full measure.
6 You make us the scorn* of our neighbours;
our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.
8 You brought a vine out of Egypt;
you drove out the nations and planted it.
9 You cleared the ground for it;
it took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches;
11 it sent out its branches to the sea,
and its shoots to the River.
12 Why then have you broken down its walls,
so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 The boar from the forest ravages it,
and all that move in the field feed on it.
14 Turn again, O God of hosts;
look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15 the stock that your right hand planted.*
16 They have burned it with fire, they have cut it down;*
may they perish at the rebuke of your countenance.
17 But let your hand be upon the one at your right hand,
the one whom you made strong for yourself.
18 Then we will never turn back from you;
give us life, and we will call on your name.
19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.
