A sign that Luke 14:23 is in the future and not the past is Israel’s lack of a temple needed for a revival of the daily sacrifice (of red heifers I believe).

As I already stated, the signs are a warning and intended to encourage us to be prepared whether it be for the Second Coming or our own individual death, be it old age, illness, traffic accident, war or His Coming.

Can't take the Bible literally. Jesus was real (he was a real historical figure.) But he used fairy tales to get the folks living in Israel to understand what he was talking about.
