(2 Peter 1:20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (Isaiah 28:10) For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isaiah 28:13) But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Man, all of those “early Church Fathers” dissing on the Pontifex Maximus before his job was even created.

The Lord has the best sense of humor.

I was reading Colossians and a few verses struck me as pointing some accusatory tones toward the Modern-Day Judaizers and Christopagans of today:

2 Colossians 8
8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

2 Colossians 16-19
16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

Yeah, right!

Teachers like Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Bakker and Marvin Gorman; a fine group of preachers!

P.S. I’ll be the first to admit that the Catholic Church has its bad apples; Bergoglio being a prime example.

1. I don’t know them. They don’t teach my church.
2. Sounds like you deny that God gave teachers to His church. You are foolish to deny the Word of God.

Why would a "sola scriptura" guy need teachers? I could only see that if one is an illiterate, which you obviously aren't.

Or is it you guys are actually being taught what is not in scripture to understand what is in Scripture?

You've heard of YOPIOS, right? Your Own Personal Interpretation Of Scriptue.

The consistency of the ECFs in these matters dear to Rome is their inconsistency.

Why would a "sola scriptura" guy need teachers?

Have you asked CHRIST why He gave the gift of TEACHER?

Have you asked why GOD wrote...

"He who descended is the very One who ascended above all the heavens, in order to fill all things. And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for works of ministry and to build up the body of Christ,… Eph 4

You've heard of YOPIOS, right? Your Own Personal Interpretation Of Scriptue.

Yes. No such thing.

It’s been 2,000 years now.

The apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers have all done their job.

What else needs to taught? What hasn’t been taught already: Homo marriages, sex outside of marriage, divorce and remarriage, birth control, abortion, womyn priests, womyn bishops, etc?

Actually, what you've posted erodes the Roman Catholic position that has been posted on these threads and that roman apologists attempt to posit in that "tradition" is what was handed down from the Apostles from one generation to another.

What Ratzinger has written supports the position non-Roman Catholics have taken in that Rome has created the various dogmas they believe which are not found in nor grounded in Scripture.

Attempting to cite John 16:4 for support of this "subsequent" remembering allows for a hole big enough to drive the solar system through and allow Rome to continue to develop pretty much any dogma desired.

The fifth Marian dogma as an example.

4“But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you."

sometimes ebb, you post something that just screams, "I don't have any idea what Christianity is!"

You just did it.

God says why they are necessary today...

"to equip the saints for works of ministry and to build up the body of Christ,…"

You need to come to saving faith. You'd have the Holy Spirit to guide you, plus you'd have salvation and not burn.

So in other words “sola scriptura” is a farce.

You guys need “teachers” of “extra scripturam”?

So in other words “sola scriptura” is a farce.

First, I see you did not admit you have no idea what God wrote in the Ephesians passage. Noted.

Second, you just admitted you have no idea what sola scriptura means.

Anyone who believes the Scriptures are authoritative and sufficient for salvation and maturity would obey them all and know what they say.

But carry on 🔥

Unless your teachers are reading the Bible to you, verbatim, and nothing else, you're not getting "sola scriptura".

"Sola scriptura" is a joke; and it's not even in Scripture.

But I've bet my SOUL on the teachings of the RCC being right!!

--Catholic_Wannabe_Dude(Hail Mary!!)

Yes, but do they have any assurance of anything, but hell fire and brimstone? It seems they strive, day and night, to be good enough to “attain” salvation, which is a total, complete impossibility. Why do people want to belong to a “religion,” that almost guarantees them the lake of fire. I think I would be terribly scared of hell, if I relied on THAT non plan of salvation. (No Catholic wanna be dude) 😚😅😃🥹🤣🤔😆

Protestantism wants a contract, not a covenant.

There is no trust in a contract. In a covenant there is trust.

Protestantism doesn’t have any trust in God.

Beware of whom you choose as your teachers:

"I charge you (diamartyromai) before God and Christ Jesus, who is to come to judge the living and the dead, by his epiphany and by his Kingdom: preach the Word of God, urge with occasion or without occasion, argue, rebuke, exhort, with unwearied patience, and zealous teaching. For the time will come when men will no longer endure sound teaching, but according to their lust they will seek out teachers to flatter their ears, and turn their attention away from the truth and be converted to myths" (2 Tim 4:1-4).

Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, Jan Huss, Erasmus, Zwingli, Wycliffe all come to mind.

It’s also ridiculous since for the vast majority of church history everyone except the few educated were illiterate. Does that mean that those who can’t read are damned?

Or does faith come through hearing?

The only reason to *interpret* Scripture is to make it mean something other than what it says.

Your interpretation of the Bible most certainly could be wrong.

Here’s an idea. Just read what it says and take it at face value.

Don’t try to make it say what you want it to mean. Just read it and ask God to reveal His truth to you through it, without any preconceived notions about it.
