(2 Peter 1:20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (Isaiah 28:10) For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isaiah 28:13) But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

——>BUT, if you want to use this passage to try and deny the believer’s salvation you will note if you do sin....and everyone does...then there’s nothing left to save you.

A single sin, then repented of? No. Deliberate, persistent, defiant sin. Claiming Grace will not save you.

(SDA Bible Commentary)
To be sure, all sinners are in a state of revolt against God (see on Rom. 8:7). But, as Paul explained to the Athenians, before sinners have received the knowledge of the truth God winks at their ignorance (Acts 17:30). Before the light of truth shines into men’s hearts God does not hold them accountable for the darkness that prevails there (see John 15:22; cf. Eze. 3:18–21; 18:2–32; 33:12–20; Luke 23:34; 1 Tim. 1:13). God loves sinners, and, indeed, sent His Son to save them (see on John 1:4, 5, 9–12; 3:16; cf. Matt. 9:13). But when light comes and men choose darkness instead, they stand self condemned before God (John 3:19), and “there remaineth no more sacrifice for [their] sins” (Heb. 10:26; cf. James 4:17).

You have been made aware of truth. You are now accountable for it.

I would say that I’m way out in front of those who believe that God’s law doesn’t apply to them, or that they can’t sin, or that God’s law is only for the unsaved (I laugh every time I hear that one....came from METMOM BTW) or only their “flesh” sins, but not their “Spirit” (which is a doctrine of the Nicolaitans).

How about you?

How about you?

19Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

21But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

27Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. 28For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. 29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.

Romans 3:19-30 NASB

15“We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; 16nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified. Galatians 2:15-16

Memtmom seems to be in agreement with Paul.

Those trying to earn righteousness via the Law are indeed unsaved.

No one I am aware of says we cannot sin. Some of the RCs may hold to that position but Scripture doesn't support that.

I have heard of the plates, but didn’t ole Joe have some sort of special glasses to see them.

SEE them?

He didn't NEED to 'see' them!

"Now the way he translated was he put the urim and thummim into his hat and Darkned his Eyes than he would take a sentance and it would apper in Brite Roman Letters. Then he would tell the writer and he would write it. Then that would go away the next sentance would Come and so on. But if it was not Spelt rite it would not go away till it was rite, so we see it was marvelous. Thus was the hol [whole] translated."
---Joseph Knight's journal.

"In writing for your father I frequently wrote day after day, often sitting at the table close by him, he sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us."
(History of the RLDS Church, 8 vols.
(Independence, Missouri: Herald House,1951),
"Last Testimony of Sister Emma [Smith Bidamon]," 3:356.

"I, as well as all of my father's family, Smith's wife, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, were present during the translation. . . . He [Joseph Smith] did not use the plates in translation."
---(David Whitmer,
as published in the "Kansas City Journal," June 5, 1881,
and reprinted in the RLDS "Journal of History", vol. 8, (1910), pp. 299-300.

In an 1885 interview, Zenas H. Gurley, then the editor of the RLDS Saints Herald, asked Whitmer if Joseph had used his "Peep stone" to do the translation. Whitmer replied:

"... he used a stone called a "Seers stone," the "Interpreters" having been taken away from him because of transgression. The "Interpreters" were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a "Seers stone" which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English."

"Martin Harris related an incident that occurred during the time that he wrote that portion of the translation of the Book of Mormon which he was favored to write direct from the mouth of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He said that the Prophet possessed a seer stone, by which he was enabled to translate as well as from the Urim and Thummim, and for convenience he then used the seer stone, Martin explained the translation as follows: By aid of the seer stone, sentences would appear and were read by the Prophet and written by Martin and when finished he would say 'Written,' and if correctly written that sentence would disappear and another appear in its place, but if not written correctly it remained until corrected, so that the translation was just as it was engraven on the plates, precisely in the language then used."
(Edward Stevenson, "One of the Three Witnesses,"
reprinted from Deseret News, 30 Nov. 1881
in Millennial Star, 44 (6 Feb. 1882): 86-87.)

In 1879, Michael Morse, Emma Smith's brother-in-law, stated:

"When Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon [I] had occasion more than once to go into his immediate presence, and saw him engaged at his work of translation. The mode of procedure consisted in Joseph's placing the Seer Stone in the crown of a hat, then putting his face into the hat, so as to entirely cover his face, resting his elbows upon his knees, and then dictating word after word, while the scribes Emma, John Whitmer, O. Cowdery, or some other wrote it down."
(W.W. Blair interview with Michael Morse,
Saints Herald, vol. 26, no. 12
June 15, 1879,  pp. 190-91.)

Joseph Smith's brother William also testified to the "face in the hat" version:

"The manner in which this was done was by looking into the Urim and Thummim, which was placed in a hat to exclude the light, (the plates lying near by covered up), and reading off the translation, which appeared in the stone by the power of God"
("A New Witness for Christ in America,"
Francis W. Kirkham, 2:417.)

"The manner in which he pretended to read and interpret was the same manner as when he looked for the money-diggers, with the stone in his hat, while the book of plates were at the same time hid in the woods."
---Isaac Hale (Emma Smith's father's) affidavit, 1834.

White claimed to receive the first of several hundred visions in December of 1844.

Joseph Smith, the founder and leader of the Latter Day Saint movement, died on June 27, 1844

Looks like it took a few months before them thar visions found another willing receiver!

I remember I ate some meat on Friday. I was so scared I had committed a mortal sin, and I had a horrible fear of hell, like many Catholics have, but are scared to admit it.

How would you like to go a large part of the year without eating meat?!

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 89:12-13

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, February 27, 1833. HC 1: 327–329. As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. The first three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.

 10–17, Herbs, fruits, flesh, and grain are ordained for the use of man and of animals;

  12 Yea, aflesh also of bbeasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used csparingly;
13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be aused, only in times of winter, or of cold, or bfamine.

Merely repeating what the Books says:

——>No one I am aware of says we cannot sin.

Then you are not aware of much. It has been thoroughly discussed. Where do you think the Ravi reference came from? If God’s law doesn’t apply to you, then you cannot sin. BECAUSE, sin is transgression of the law.

METMOM stated that God’s law is only for the UNSAVED and does not apply to OSAS/OJAJ. They are locked into salvation. Nothing can touch them. Then there are those who state that the flesh can sin, but not the Spirit, which has sealed the Christian at the microsecond of Grace.

And many more RIDICULOUS excuses why God’s law does not apply to them. As soon as I thought I heard them all, some OSAS/OJAJ comes up with another one.

There are multiple threads there this was discussed. JUST ASK METMOM!!!!!

Why... it would verify that the LDS religious organization is NOT a cult; right?

How many languages has the BoM been translated into, and NONE of them from the original source, but from ENGLISH - and 1600's English at that.

Surely you know what the Believability Index for the Papyri that Joseph 'translated'.

When the ORIGINALS he had we're found, the 'translation' fell to pieces.
