Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

John 5

Testimonies About Jesus

31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true.

33 “You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34 Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35 John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.

36 “I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You study[c] the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

41 “I do not accept glory from human beings, 42 but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44 How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God[d]?

45 “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our LORD,
Heavenly Father,
You Are Our Dwelling Place,
And Have been Throughout Generations!
You Are Our Shelter,
Our Home.
How we Long For, and Hope for Your Grace and Comfort
During these times of sorrow and distress!
Your Are our Dwelling Place, Our Comfort, Our Shelter, Our Refuge, Our Sanctuary.
No House made with Human Hands can compare.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Today's news is filled with Indictments, arraignments, grand juries, prosecutors,and statements from lawyers. Today's story is about a brush with the legal system that happened in my own family.

This Story happened long ago, and everybody in it is now deceased. Even the Division of Law Enforcement (The MDC) that was involved no longer exists. Here we go:

Mom was surprised on her birthday when Dad gave her a car! It was a painstakingly restored 1968 Mustang, Cherry Red, with a white roof, all registered, tagged, and insured and ready to drive. Mom loved that car! It was especially precious to her because her two sons had done the restoration, and whenever she drove it, cute-looking guys would smile, beep, give her the "thumbs up" and made her feel like a queen instead of a housewife with six kids.

One bright sunny day, Mom was driving this beautiful car on a winding parkway with my baby sister in the front seat when a car came careening straight towards her in her lane. Due to Mom's quick reflexes and the Rack-and-pinion steering, she managed to avoid a head-on collision and went into a tree instead. The other car stopped, and a very drunk man staggered out of the car and said, "Shorry, Lady...I didn't Shee you."

The special unit of the MDC Park Police showed up, arrested the man for drunk driving, and got a tow for Mom. (thank God both Mom and Little Sis were wearing seat belts!)

Months later, the arresting officer called Mom and advised her that the Drunk Driver was being sued for property damage, and the courts had not even called her as a witness. He thought she should be there and was just letting her know.

Being a big fan of Perry Mason and other Courtroom dramas, Mom dressed to the nines, put on tasteful make-up, and drove her (again restored) Mustang into town to "Sock-it-to" that evil drunk driver who have endangered her life and the life of her child. The Defense (?!?) called her as a witness.

The following is the best I can remember of the testimony:

Lawyer: "So, give us YOUR version of the story."

Mom: "Well, I was driving my car down the Parkway..."

Lawyer: "Hold it right there! WHOSE car were you driving?"

Mom: "My Car..."

Lawyer: "YOUR car?"

Mom: "Well, yes. My car..."

Lawyer: "Are you sure about that? Do you want that to be your testimony?"

Mom: "Why yes. It's my car. My husband gave it to me for my birthday."

Lawyer: "Your husband?"

Mom: "Yes. (then she gave my Dad's name)"

Lawyer: "Is that the same name that appears upon the car's registration and on the Bill of Sale?"

Mom: "Yes. That's the same person"

Lawyer: "Are you now admitting to the court that you LIED when you called the vehicle "My Car" since it is not "Your Car" but your HUSBAND'S car and are you not lying when you said that the car in question is NOT your car, and that you are, in fact, a perpetual liar, and are trying to deceive this court?"

At that point, Mom was dissolved in tears and humiliation, the judge dismissed the charges and Mom's faith in the "system" was forever tarnished. She was so traumatized by the incident that she couldn't serve on a jury or have anything to do with the legal system after that.

This little section of the 5th Chapter of the Gospel of John is about human testimony vs. the testimony of God, Who IS the Truth. We will never know why the judge allowed that lawyer to badger my Mom in that fashion. There could have been a bribe involved, or maybe he was just evil. In any case, the whole thing took place a half century ago, but I still remember it clearly!

In John's Gospel there are a lot of words printed in Red Ink. In my Study Bible, this is the publisher's indication that these are the words of Jesus. While there is a lot of Red Ink in the other Gospels, John's overflows with it. We are treated to the Teachings, Preaching, Musings, and Prayers of Jesus, sometimes with whole chapters appearing in Red Ink. Although Red Ink wasn't used in the original manuscripts and copies of the New Testament, it is a convenient way of seeing the Words of Christ pop out on the page.

Like the evil lawyer in my sad but true story, some people will try to twist those words that are in Red Ink, and say that Jesus said something that He didn't. They will try to call Him a liar. These wicked "lawyers" might even twist Scripture to destroy a person's Faith in the Word of God, but as Scripture says:

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. (Romans 3:4-8KJV)

Prayers today for those facing a monolithic, unjust, corrupt system, for the unjustly accused, for those imprisoned on false pretenses, and for those defending their personal freedom, in Jesus Name.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 37

Of David.

1 Do not fret because of the wicked;
do not be envious of wrongdoers,
2 for they will soon fade like the grass,
and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will make your vindication shine like the light,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday.

7 Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
over those who carry out evil devices.

8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath.
Do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For the wicked shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

10 Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look diligently for their place, they will not be there.
11 But the meek shall inherit the land,
and delight in abundant prosperity.

12 The wicked plot against the righteous,
and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he sees that their day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,
to kill those who walk uprightly;
15 their sword shall enter their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.

16 Better is a little that the righteous person has
than the abundance of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
but the Lord upholds the righteous.

18 The Lord knows the days of the blameless,
and their heritage will abide for ever;
19 they are not put to shame in evil times,
in the days of famine they have abundance.

20 But the wicked perish,
and the enemies of the Lord are like the glory of the pastures;
they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.

21 The wicked borrow, and do not pay back,
but the righteous are generous and keep giving;
22 for those blessed by the Lord shall inherit the land,
but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

23 Our steps* are made firm by the Lord,
when he delights in our* way;
24 though we stumble,* we* shall not fall headlong,
for the Lord holds us* by the hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
26 They are ever giving liberally and lending,
and their children become a blessing.

27 Depart from evil, and do good;
so you shall abide for ever.
28 For the Lord loves justice;
he will not forsake his faithful ones.

The righteous shall be kept safe for ever,
but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land,
and live in it for ever.

30 The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom,
and their tongues speak justice.
31 The law of their God is in their hearts;
their steps do not slip.

32 The wicked watch for the righteous,
and seek to kill them.
33 The Lord will not abandon them to their power,
or let them be condemned when they are brought to trial.

34 Wait for the Lord, and keep to his way,
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
you will look on the destruction of the wicked.

35 I have seen the wicked oppressing,
and towering like a cedar of Lebanon.*
36 Again I* passed by, and they were no more;
though I sought them, they could not be found.

37 Mark the blameless, and behold the upright,
for there is posterity for the peaceable.
38 But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
the posterity of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
he is their refuge in the time of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them and rescues them;
he rescues them from the wicked, and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
