Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 21

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times

5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, 6 “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.”

7 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?”

8 He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”

10 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

12 “But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. 13 And so you will bear testimony to me. 14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. 17 Everyone will hate you because of me. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 Stand firm, and you will win life.

20 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. 23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. 24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Most Holy and Wonderful Name!
For Your Alone Are Worthy of Our Devotion,
For You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are the True God of The Universe!
The Earth is Yours
And The Fullness thereof
You Control the Wind and The Rain
You Create a Lovely Spring Day
Or a Mighty Tempest.
Where can we run?
For When I Go to sleep at night, You are with me.
When I awake in the morning, You Are There.
You know my going out and my coming in.
You count every hair of my head,
And You keep all my tears in a bottle as a remembrance.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

In my Wonderful Yard-Sale Find, a huge NIV Study Bible that I got for $8.00, the Words of Jesus are printed in Red Ink. Even brief statements in the Book of Acts and Revelation are printed in Red Ink if they are the Words of Jesus. In Today's Reading, MOST of it is in Red.

Just yesterday, it was so hot, I stayed indoors and watched videos about Jerusalem. There has been so much work done in the City of David and in the other Archaeological Digs around the Temple Mount that it boggles the mind. In the 19th Century, this area was mostly covered by dirt and ramshackle neighborhoods from 20 Centuries of conquest and destruction. The Modern State of Israel has had control over the area since 1967 (The Six Day War) and started digging right away. By the time I visited in 1984, The Dig at the Southwest Corner of the Retaining Wall was well under way. The Grand Staircase at the Southern side had just been unearthed, and the excavations in the City of David were just beginning. Even so, it was an amazing sight to see. Piles of huge stones, which Josephus had described as "Purest White" were piled in heaps along the base of the Retaining Wall, where they have sat for 2000 years. These stones had been pushed off the Temple Mount by Roman Soldiers in 70AD. It was just as Jesus said: As far as the Temple itself, not "one stone was left standing on another".

This catastrophe wasn't the first time the Temple was destroyed. Some six centuries earlier, Solomon's Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians, and the Jewish People carried away into exile. In today's Passage, Jesus spoke of the unthinkable: that this amazing, beautiful, enormous, seemingly indestructible Temple was going to be destroyed again. THAT Prophecy was fulfilled 40 years later, less than a generation in the future. Not only did the Romans destroy the Temple and the City, they EXILED the Jews and sent them wandering all over the Earth. There are even Synagogues in China, Africa, and, of course, the New World. This "dispersion" of the Jewish People is called "The Diaspora", and, for centuries, most people assumed that it was a permanent condition.

The Diaspora suffered horrible persecutions, which culminated in the Holocaust. Although there had been a Zionist movement for some time, in 1948 the Modern State of Israel was born.

Many people believe that the founding of the Modern State of Israel was "the budding of the Fig Tree" spoken of by Jesus. The Archaeological excavations prove that Jesus was right about the Destruction of the Temple, the fact that no stone was left upon the other, and that it took place within one generation (40 years) of Him speaking those words. The Roman Empire wasted no time covering up the destruction, and built pagan temples on the Jewish and Christian sacred sites. The Muslims and the Crusades did exactly the same thing, and the Ottoman Empire placed its own stamp on the City by building the walls and fortresses that still stand today. It takes a bit of digging (in fact a LOT of digging) to find the original buildings from the time of Jesus.

But what about the word "ALL" as in "All these things" happening before "this generation passes away"? Jesus predicts His return, and that hasn't happened yet.

The clue here is the Greek Word for "Generation". It also means "Race or Ethnicity". The "Ethnicity" that Jesus was speaking of could very well be His Own Ethnicity, and that of His Apostles. As we all know, Jesus was Jewish. In spite of every satanic plot to destroy the Jewish People, they are still with us.

Every day, Archaeologists in Israel unearth something that confirms what we read in Scripture. The earth has been silent for 20 centuries, but is now revealing its secrets, one by one. I suggest we "look up, for our Redemption draws near".

Stay Tuned!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Psalm 126

A Song of Ascents.

1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,*
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then it was said among the nations,
‘The Lord has done great things for them.’
3 The Lord has done great things for us,
and we rejoiced.

4 Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like the watercourses in the Negeb.
5 May those who sow in tears
reap with shouts of joy.
6 Those who go out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves.
