In the last couple of months, thousands more houses of worship have left the United Methodist Church, having their disaffiliation votes approved by their UMC conferences.
Updated totals show that as many as 6,000 churches have fled the UMC in the last couple of years — and the issue shows no signs of slowing down.
"For the last several ... decades, the United Methodist Church has been in a big debate about whether to change its official stance on LGBT issues," Christian Post reporter Michael Gryboski explained on “The Inside Story” podcast. "At present, the UMC prohibits the blessing of same-sex unions and the ordination of non-celibate homosexuals."
Now, chaos within the denomination has unfolded. What's happening and why does it matter? Listen to Gryboski explain:
Gee! I wonder. Have some folks finally reached the tipping point?
C’mon people, pay attention. This is not not news. The issue was due to come to head this year and it has.
My guess is that the core Methodist organization will say good riddance, take what assets they can, and happily divvy up the money from the Wills of long dead members up among fewer members. The Christian Scientists and Episcopalians seem to be doing similar.
Good.
This was supposed to have been settled in St Louis a few years ago, but nothing is ever settled with libs.
Mother’s House is burning down. She might want to put out the fire rather than cheering for war :)
They are also against revealed moral law…
“Maybe the dissenting churches should merge with the Catholic Church. There’s plenty of LGBT priests and bishops there.”
Typo? The dissenting churches are moving away from the United Methodist hierarchy, who are the ones going full bore Sodom.
They can use it for a Bud Light storage facility.
From what I understand, the Bible-believing peoples are the ones leaving the perverts and pedophiles that are destroying their denominations.
Like what has happened in Presbyterian, Lutherans, and a few other denominations.
The perverts are staying, the Bible-believing are leaving.

Thank you for correcting me on this.
I grew up partly in a conservative Methodist church, a descendant of a Free Methodist church founded in the 1840s.
But I haven’t stayed in touch with that church since I live 1000 miles away from where I grew up.
We do have someone on FR, UMCRevMom@aol.com, who is a self-professed minister in the UMC.
As such she would certainly know a lot more about this potential schism in the UMC than most other Freepers do.
Though she dumps massive, multiple, almost daily pro-Ukraine posts on FR, gleefully celebrates the deaths of Russians, (who she refers to as "RuZZians,") and seems to enjoy posting Russian body counts, she has never posted a thing or commented on the one thing she has expert knowledge about; the coming schism in the UMC that is being caused by infiltration of the UMC by radical homosexuals.
I have asked her repeatedly to comment on the situation and indeed I asked her if she was for or against the UMC allowing transexuals and open homosexuals, some of whom have said that God is gay, God is a tranny, and God is "nothing," to become ministers.
Her silence in the face of such evil, especially when she has an official position in the UMC, amounts to complicity with shocking, anti-human, anti-Christianity evil.
Perhaps if other Freepers ask her to comment on the situation she will. It would be extremely interesting to hear her views on it.
I understand. I grew up Christian Reformed, but there aren’t any reformed churches in the interior of Alaska.
I’ve since ended up at a small SBC church. Wish I would have been here for the last 20+ years.
Not surprised. This has been going on for awhile and the more Bible oriented congregations have been leaving. My folks were delegates to the state conference every year and their church always voted against gay marriage and gay pastors.
