Like many of our nation’s founders, I’m a Deist. Which means I believe that God created the universe, but He is not involved in our lives at all. He doesn’t listen or answer our prayers. He doesn’t intervene in human affairs. I look at the Bible as a kind of allegory, not as literal truth.
Thomas Jefferson went as far as to rip out portions of the Bible that referred to Jesus as divine, including all miracles (curing lepers, raising the dead, walking on water, loaves and fishes, water to wine, resurrection, etc). I realize this is blasphemy to many people — which is fine, we each have to rationalize the universe as we see it — but the fact remains that God hasn’t intervened in countless genocides (Armenian, Holocaust, Rwanda, Mao purges, Stalin purges, etc). When I was growing up, I used to ask my priest, “Why, Father? Why can’t God help these poor people?” To which he would answer, “It’s a mystery, son.”
I don’t think it’s a mystery at all. If God intervenes in our world, it destroys mankind’s sense of free will. We would become dependent on Him. You can’t be dependent on someone and retain free will. It corrupts everything. If you don’t have free will, then you are no longer responsible for your sin and, thus, the concept of final judgement falls apart.
So, no, God won’t intervene to destroy Russia.
Probably about the most ridiculous post on this thread.
You don’t believe in Jesus (God). I get it.
You will one day. That is a promise!
