Three Christian school counselors who 'misgendered' transgender students at a Massachusetts middle school have been put on leave over claims they engaged in 'conversion therapy'.
Delinda Dykes, Hector Santos and Tania Cabrera were accused of not using students self-declared pronouns and calling them by their birth names used before transition at Amherst Regional Middle School (ARMS).
The trio are also said to have failed to provide support for those facing gender-based bullying and have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation takes place.
Santos is accused of performing 'conversion therapy' and Dykes is alleged to have prayed against an LGBT 'demon 'that wants to confuse our children' and 'handed out chocolate crucifixes'.
The allegations were made in a student-run newspaper using anonymous sources.
All three counselors are accused of misgendering students and referring to them by their birth name instead of the name they now use after their transition.
Student newspaper Graphic said the allegations stem from the 'religious beliefs' of Santos and Dykes who according to an anonymous source 'frequently expressed their religious views' at work.
A secretary, who spoke under the pseudonym of John, claimed Dykes and Santos invited him to a 'private prayer circle' before school.
And he became uncomfortable when Dykes, who is said to have been named interim principal in November, allegedly began the prayer with: 'In the name of Jesus, we bind that [LGBT] gay demon that wants to confuse our children.'
John felt an immediate 'tightness in my chest' and looked to the door 'wanting to run.'
The post from May 9 added that Santos allegedly posted religiously worded anti-LGBTQ material on his public Facebook page.
He is said to have referred to Adam and Eve, 'gay conversion' and 'freedom in Jesus' in the posts.
